Post 1998 or so, this isn't an argument anymore. Everyone has access to basically any information they desire at the tip of their fingers.
Want is not the same thing as ability.

It should be a requirement at every high school in the country that students take a class called "personal finance and responsibility".
The most useful class I took in high school was Consumer Math.
I took it my senior year, but kids need to take this class freshman year, before they get a job, drivers licence, etc.
My youngest just finished a class called Quest for Success. It is supposed to be a career exploration course. The kids had a nickname for the coach who taught it, "Dream Crusher."
Both should be taught first, then they can move on to Algebra and Geometry.

Really could have used this back in 2011 when it was half way impossible to find a job. But no let's roll this hand out in one of the best job markets since before the recession. Makes total sense.

Dude, I'm a CPA and can do Black Scholes calculations now and was a straight A student in high school, but when I was 18 I really had no idea how any of that shite worked. I understood that if I borrowed money I had to pay back more than I borrowed, but when you are trying to decide where you want to school, where you'll be living, what you want to do with the rest of your life, a little guidance in how the hell all that shite worked through a personal finance class would have helped.
Your post is disenginous as frick.

Half of kids in NYC and LA can't read or do basic math. I don't know how you teach them financial principles when they can't understand how to communicate or add.
Good luck teaching these kids how to figure interest, or keep up with balances.

Half or most
Half and most are basically never used interchangeably unless someone is making an arse of himself.

How many of those kids take out student loans?

Financial principles, one could argue, are even more important for them

I agree, let's say frick it and not even try.

if you were, you would know kids who can't do remedial math will never learn financial basics.
