It is as the title says, gives kids a head start in school during a time of life when they absorb so much.
Which do you think leads to better education, a child sitting at home watching television all day or spending a few hours with other children and getting introduced to the basics of learning, such as the alphabet, numbers or even how to write their own name.
Children from low income families in particular benefit from this program and it is sad to see a government that devalues it's children when the return on the investment is so great.
One of my daughters is an elementary school teacher. Her first two jobs before that were working as a teacher with Head Start.

Them poor peoples cannot afford Moms' day out at the Beau Chene Country Club. Tell the bums to go a job at minimum wage so they can spend more money than they earn to send the childrens to daycare.
Yeah - early childhood education attempts are really bad stuff for our country. Maybe should be like the Chinese and put every one of our Kids in front of computers 50 hours a week from the day they are born.

The evidence shows that by 3rd grade head start kids are already behind again.
The evidence shows head start kids have more learning disabilities, worse grades, higher dropout rates, more discipline issues, and more likely to be unemployed if/when they graduate.
Because the key to growing up to be a successful and productive part of the community comes from having a stable home life with 2 parents, not from government incentivized programs that incentivize single motherhood

That's what I've seen as well.
But why?
ETA:

Because the key to growing up to be a successful and productive part of the community comes from having a stable home life with 2 parents
But given two single parent groups, why would there not be a differential?
