In case of fire don't call the Fire Dept....use the garden hose.

You still have to fund schools, police, courts, prisons, firefighters, roads, infrastructure, parks, and everything else not paid for by the feds.
Some of that we disagree on. I live in a town of less than $4,000 and we have a $3 million a year police dept. where the chief just runs a “look at me” Facebook page. It’s unnecessary.

If you own a business and have furniture, you have to continue to pay taxes on this... its total bullshite

I'm for charging the so called "non-profit" medical facilities property taxes. That would prevent entities like the very profitable "non-profit" St Francis Medical System in Monroe from doing things like buying the property tax paying North Monroe Hospital and simply closing it down to prevent competition. And then not having to pay property taxes on it.

Do you like riding on roads, bridges, streets? Want a sewer system so that your shite doesn't run down the street? like having an ambulance service? (they all are either owned by or heavily subsidized by local govt). Want public schools? Want a fire dept? Want recreation areas? Like your garbage picked up? Want the roads cleared after a storm? Want your land deeds recorded so that some yahoo can't come claim your land as their own? Want criminals held accountable in court? Want to be able to sue someone to recover damages? Want a sheriff or police force to protect you and jail criminals? Want an emergency management and 911 system so that you can be rescued in a crisis? Want a veterans affairs service? To help veterans get services that they don't know exists or how to get. I could go on. But you get the idea of what your property taxes go to pay. The real question is are your local officials spending your property tax money wisely. Or are they wasting it. I'm a Republican elected official in MS.

Who's the Neanderthal? They're not state taxes. They're local taxes.

quote:Apartment complexes and landlords pay property taxes and pass the cost along in the price they charge for rent. Tenants pay property taxes, indirectly (unless they’re on section 8 where the government is paying the rent).
Let the apartment dwellers help fund schools.

Visitors. Let the city encourage tourism and business to drive revenue.

I’d much rather be taxed on my usage vs some arbitrary number.

unfortunately they have no standing in the property tax arena other than to eliminate the cap on SALT so we aren't being double taxed on the same money. IIRC Trump was the one that capped the amount you could write off in the first place.

We are not advocating for simply eliminating property tax without mitigation in some form.
What I am advocating is the outlaw of not being able to own property. Property tax is rent paying rent to the government. And we assert that it is the worst form of tax.
At any time as has already happened in this country. People have bought a home, payed off their home, so most or elderly since most people take decades top pay off their mortgage. But some how are being forced to sale their homes because Florida raised their property tax so high the couldn't afford to pay it.
I prefer to live in a country were the govt can't take you property when you don't want to sale.
Remember the outrage many years ago when a property owner didn't want to sale their property so that a commercial property could be constructed there which would generate more taxes. Yes this was also in Florida and they took that persons property by force of eminent domain. This would not have happened had it not be for the state wanting more revenue. Side note it was a terrible misuse of the eminent domain law.
So this has nothing todo with anyone wanting lower taxes. That is an different issue that isn't the crux of this issue. It is about the ability to own property or not.

I get the revolt against taxes but there needs to be some funding of the government as far as i can tell. Once we get cuts, the gov't is still going to need some way to fund it what is left? Nobody is going to cut gov't spending down to zero. Even if you transition it all to a VAT, people are going to then start complaining about paying too much in VAT. Nobody likes to pay any type of tax. Maybe we see if the spending cuts can get us down more acceptable and lower income tax rate. If the gov't is more efficient and I pay half the income taxes I pay now, I would be thrilled.

While I don't like property taxes this is a State/Local issue and nothing that FedGov needs to get involved in...

Talk to your governor. There are state politicians and federal politician.

For like the 100th time - DOGE is essentially an auditor, they have no law making/taxing authority. The investigate and report.

Dear Uncle Sam, please get involved the state/local issues I want. But don't get involved in the ones I don't want.
