I’ve been seeing the idea that removing the electoral college would be a good idea and is taking root in higher density urban areas. People that I used to look up to and who actually taught me government in high school. Of course this was before TDS was in full swing and people let it erode them to their very core with hatred and malcontent.

But where do these people think their food comes from? What do they think is going to happen when middle America has its voice stolen away? Where is all that meat being raised? All those grain and crops? Rural Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, etc...

Who do they think drives those supplies into the cities? Haven’t met too many progressive truckers in my life. Hell they even need rural America’s land in order to build their solar and wind farms. Not to mention rural America is armed to the teeth.

These people cannot see farther than their own nose. They need power and the easiest way in their mind is ditching that pesky electoral college. They don’t even think about the people that live between the coasts or outside of city limits. Are they going to seize the farms? Have an army of progressives move out to rural Iowa and grow corn or rural Nebraska and raise cattle? What is the end game? That these people will simply comply and continue to produce the stuff of life for people that are actively eroding their liberties and ways of life while stripping them of their electoral power?

The simplest example of how it would all work is the society in Hunger Games (without the angsty teenage drama and terrible acting, obviously)

you are correct. good post.

middle America (not just food- oil, manufacturing, etc) will be taxed to death and subsidies stripped, almost overnight. this really will cause a massive depression like we have never seen, as trump says.

I don't care what your personal opinion of orange man is, he fricking knows business. and he runs the economy like his own business- and is damn good at it

I’ve lived in both an urban environment and rural. City folks are completely sheltered from the realities of life. There is no grittiness associated with earning a living. The city folks truly believe the rest of us are, as that ignorant carpetbagger put it, “deplorables”. What do you mean? Food comes from a box or in a nice plastic package.

Why is this a surprise to southerners? We have always been depicted as ignorant hicks by the media and intelligentsia. Beverly hillbillies ring a bell? Dukes of Hazzard. Heehaw? For years the urban, leftist intelligentsia sent its children to man entities like the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to tell southerners how to fix their problems. The current crop will do the same, but with the rifles of someone else to back them up.

My fear is our police and military will act like the police and military in other third world countries and simply do as they are told. In my opinion it has already started. Governors, pursuant to dubious emergency powers, have mobilized police departments to enforce social restraints in an effort to protect the “public health.” Where are free assembly, free religion and other individual constitutional rights trampled by this blatant power grab? Where are the courts?

like the sentiment, but how does this play out in reality? Farmers going to burn their crops, not take government subsidies and forfeit their income stream? Rural landowners will gladly allow solar and wind farms on their land if the money is right. Plus the government has plenty of land and if nothing else could claim eminent domain if the situation ever got truly dire.

That’s what scares me. People can be pretty complacent if made comfortable enough. I think there’s an early surge and then it turns to South Africa or Botswana if you have to start seizing land or crops and distributing them via the government and not via free enterprise.

According to Stacy Abrams we don't need farmers because people just go to the grocery stores for that.
