When you control House, Senate, and Presidency… why do omnibus bills?

Why not just have single bills for each issue?
Like a 1 pager that extends Trump tax cuts?
Why do they still need to compromise with democrats?

What are you talking about? They did this so they DON'T have to compromise with Democrats.

Plus it would take forever and right you’d not get 60 votes

Single bills need 60 votes in senate, come on do research.

Strangely the Dems never have problems with this, just look at the trillions Obama and Biden spent, ot to mention Obamacare.

All those single-issue bills would be filibustered in the Senate, and would never get a vote.
This is the silliest talking point right now.
You have to use reconciliation to avoid the filibuster unless you can get a significant number of Democrat votes for it.

I’m ignorant on when the senate needs simple majority vs 60 votes.
Why would it “take forever”?
Isnt the taking forever part of the negotiations of massive bills with hundreds of compromises?

Because simply controlling the senate doesn’t let you pass individual bills with 50+1, you need 60.

I think it’s fair to say R’s always run on fiscal responsibility and continue to never address it

A single bill needs 60 votes in the Senate !!!!!!!! Why why why , do you think that would pass ? What 7 democrats are voting for it ?

60 votes for single bills and 51 votes for omnibus bills? Is this a constitutional thing or just a senate rule thing?
Posted on 7/2/25 at 10:12 pm to The Baker
Because they want to bury stuff in there to help buy votes
Posted on 7/2/25 at 10:12 pm to The Baker
They claim it’s because of the filibuster.
The filibuster is a Senate rule- not a Constitutional one- and it can be eliminated at any time.

No. The taking forever, in this case, is having to deal with blowhards like Thomas Massie.

It's the nuclear option. Democrats came up with it

It’s fair to say that Rs don’t stick together like the Marxist
Posted on 7/2/25 at 10:13 pm to The Baker
Filibuster on every single bill
Posted on 7/2/25 at 10:13 pm to RIPMachoMan
To most Rs in DC “fiscal responsibility” essentially means spending the tax payer money on shite they support. Not cutting spending.

Okay then so it isnt just a “silly talking point”… it is possible, they just dont want to do it.
Does changing a senate rule require 60 votes as well?
