There are real oil guys in this forum every day. I'm asking you and you geopolitical guys when can we trust the Venezuelans and get back to building?
If I am correct, the Venezuelans nationalized our equipment decades ago and there is a hesitancy for Exxon et al to invest there again, just to have it taken away at the zenith of profits.
Truth is, we have to deal with the fact that a democrat president will allow any foreign govt to nationalize anything we have anywhere at any time, but then blame it on capitalism....or Trump.
So actually, its not that we cannot trust the Venezuelans, its that we cannot trust our own electorate to get the right guys in place.
We ALREADY know that Democrats and RINOS will allow, 20,000,000 invaders to cross our borders and ruin productivity....they can do the same with our investments abroad.
But if we eliminate democrat/RINO voter fraud, we can have good leadership on both sides....that's right, both sides for a long time.
So, will Venezuela allow us to help them 5x, then 10x and then 20x their crude export to actually nullify the East's grip on Bab El Mandeb and Hormuz?

With the population in Venezuela flipping their support of Trump, I think the worry should be on who they elect in upcoming elections.

Big oil is owed some serious restitution from putting billions in, then being told to get out. Those who were robbed, bigly, are hesitant to go back without guaranties of not being robbed, and want their money that was robbed from them returned.

Too much business risk. Venezuelan's probably like the dictators they've had.

Why wouldn't we go with Brazil over Venezuela?
Brazil has over 120 billion barrels of crude oil at a breakeven of $25-$35/barrel. They are expected to be a top 5 producer by 2030.

You need to be mindful of their mindset. Companies like Exxon aren't just willynilly going to give them money to upgrade their facilities when the past few decades have been all about corruption and outright theft.
I tried to buy 4 cargos of xyz there couple years back. They are like Nigerians - they want $0.10 today vs $100.00 tomorrow. Bad mindset and that's why they remain in the stone age.
Friend of mine had his whole $12M conveyor system seized by Chavez. Fortunately he was smart and had insurance to cover it. Until the govt makes the country business friendly, they'll be stuck.

You can go to the Marine Traffic website and look off the coast of Brazil and see the drillship and operators. Petrobras runs the show there. They don't need much help.

Companies like Exxon
Exxon is very busy off the coast of another South American country, Guiana. They've found mucho big reserves there. And it probably is not that crappy, hard to lift Venezuelan tar oil.

That's going to continue to be a major point of conflict in Venezuela and Guyana moving forward.

You versus me in an oil conversation will result in you winning every time.
But I want to ask two things.
1. Venezuela's 300 billion barrels of thick sour crude combined with unpredictable govts AND the fact that they owe American oil businesses already makes their problem tough to deal with. Good news is that oil doesn't expire underground and we can wait for decades until that populations doesnt run to dictators.
2. Are you saying that Brazil has 120 billion barrels due to un discovered offshore reserves? I've only seen where they have around 40 billion max.

Additonaly,
We have about 20 years left of oil if we keep producing pulling 13 million barrels a day from US reserves.
Our new relationship with South America seems VERY important, right now.

Yeah - I saw some figures based on broad geological studies that estimated total recoverable or undiscovered/prospective resources
