A Colorado sports store is closing only a few months after it stopped selling Nike over the company’s decision to feature Colin Kaepernick in a 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign.

The store’s owner, Stephen Martin, told KOAA News 5 in Pubelo that Prime Time Sports will close after more than 20 years. He attributed the closure partly to the absence of players’ jerseys for sale in his store.

“Being a sports store without Nike is kind of like being a milk store without milk or a gas station without gas. How do you do it? They have a monopoly on jerseys,” Martin said.

Martin also told the TV station he canceled a 2016 scheduled appearance by Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall after Marshall took a knee during the national anthem.

“As much as I hate to admit this, perhaps there are more Brandon Marshall and Colin Kaepernick supporters out there than I realized,” Martin said.

As I said on the OT, that a person purchases a Nike jersey is not indicative of support for CK. People want to support their favorite players and display as such.

Methinks this man was already aware of his failing situation and is using the protest shite as a scapegoat.

I said it last night and I’ll say it again. A business owner using his business to make a political statement or alienate a large segment of the population is completely stupid.

Your business is there to make money. Not make social or political judgements. Sell your product to whoever has that beautiful green cash.

Nobody buys shite from those over priced stores. Plenty of people still buy jerseys & sports merch - off the internet.

This was the problem.

This was not the problem

It was a dumb move. AGAIN, a business choosing to take a political position that is guaranteed to piss of a substantial subset of its target market is asinine.

Regardless of which subset it's pissing off.

This is why I make my decisions about money, and not someone's political beliefs.

I think it was probably an attempt to get some publicity so he could boost his struggling sales. It didn't work and the outcome is what it was always going to be.

Can’t remember the last time I bought Nike. Maybe 10 year ago. Their workout and athletic apparel is sub par

I mean. If you sell to a very niche market and you want to take a stand that pisses of people not in your niche market, have at it.

But, if your target market likely includes substantial numbers of people in the category you're about to piss off, you're just an idiot.

Their Dri-FIT polos are great if you want to rep your team without looking homeless.

Making decisions based on money is the opposite of "taking a stand."

That shite's not going on my feet. You can wear whatever you want, GCT. You probably prefer ruby red slippers.

Their shoes are trash as well. Adidas makes a much much better tennis shoe

Nike does not have anything that competes with the ultra boost
