quote:Don’t know you from Adam so not a personal callout, but why would you assume, sight unseen, that your IQ would be in the top 99.3%tile? That’s what makes these threads pointless. Do any of us assume our bench press and quarter mile time are in such elite company? No. You know why? Because common sense tells us how improbable that is.
I never took ACT or IQ test, but I guess my IQ would be around 140 and my ACT would be 33-34 if I took a test.
And having done well on my IQ tests for g/t and the SAT and ACT, I don’t think I’d assume much without looking into it.

Same here. The closest I have taken are the ASVAB and of course the ACT. I have been self employed for 17 years now very successfully, and even though I dropped out of college to start my first business, I like to think I am no dummy.
Also, I think there are various ways to measure true intelligence. I have always been blessed with great mechanical knowledge but I remember the "gifted" people in high school struggling with the ASVAB because they lacked common sense about such things. Most of them are all high school teachers now and haven't accomplished nearly what I have.

that we have anyone near 140.
When tested my IQ was a legit 139. The Army doesn't routinely send dummies to Princeton to earn both undergrad and grad degrees and then move them up through the ranks eventually terminating at Colonel (and only because I retired, rumor was that I was at least in consideration for one possibly two more promotions in my career had I chosen to stay)
And though I consider myself to be more intelligent than most both in real life and on this board, I am in noway arrogant enough to believe that I am the only one posting here who has such an IQ. I merely in noway believe 139 is the AVERAGE IQ here.

One can just read about 10 threads on the Poli board and tell that the average IQ of this board may be slightly higher than the average IQ of every day America, but not by that much.

Of course, traditional IQ tests are mostly related to academic prowess. There are some good views out there about multiple types of intelligence.

I have been traveling for the past 6 weeks and will do so until I go home to see family for Christmas. They are stuck dealing with high school students. In short, I seriously doubt it.

yes IQ is by far the best individual measure of likely success in terms of intelligence, but "intelligence" is one of those terms that can be expanded and contracted by the person discussing it. it's very malleable
i mean just think about how we use the word "genius" in different areas
now i know it's a bullshite version of reality but Amadeus is a great example of a legit genius shining over a person who has put in a ton of work in an area and is certainly more able to understand the area than a normal person could ever dream, but they pale in comparison to the raw comprehension of that area when a genius shows up. people who have that "genius" edge (in whatever field it may be just process information in that area quickly and efficiently that leads to a comprehension of the subject that is so severe that a normal person can't comprehend comprehending what is going on
when you meet one of those people, you don't forget it

Because where I grew up schools rank all students for gifted programs (middle school, high school and college), I was usually around the top 0.5%.
I think both my ex and wife would be 155-160 since they are around top 0.01%.
