This. Dumb example, but I was watching an old episode of the Simpsons last night with my boy and the analogy came to me.

It's the one with Frank Grimes, the guy who does everything right and slowly goes mad seeing the double standard of Homer's general buffooneries. Only difference is Homer is just woefully clueless and not evil, like the left.

Basically everyone acknowledges and accepts Homer is an idiot, doesn't deserve what he has, doesn't do his job as safety inspector and endangers everyone-- and it's a big meh. Frank (the right) keeps being the bigger person until he loses it and accidentally kills himself trying to be like Homer. Everyone laughs at the funeral as Frank's casket is lowered because Homer fell asleep and said "change the channel Marge"

We kept it together watching this foolishness, (Some at least) said frick it, we'll play by their rules and ended up dead.
