A new regime that has no ties to the current one. We can’t do what we’ve done and allow it to continue on.

quote:

Is it severe degradation of Iran's military capabilities?

That can be rebuilt.

quote:

Is it to pressure Iran into surrendering all ambitions for a nuclear weapon?

These attacks give them more reason to pursue them. You don’t see us attacking North Korea and there’s good reason for it.

quote:

Is it to force Iran to cease all support for their various terrorist proxies?

The current regime will never ever do that.

If the only thing that comes out of it is the removal of the Islamic republic, and the Iranian people get back to the civilized world it will be well worth it.
In a couple years about 80% of the bs in the middle east would end.

Yes, we should absolutely try this again. This has worked very well every other time we've tried it. There's no way that this creates new "clerics." There's no way that this creates more jihadis.

The Islamic Republic was created almost 50 years ago. That's 50 years of indoctrinating an entire generation.

No army has ever been able to beat this ideology out of people in this region. Yes, Iran is technically Persia, but it was effectively colonized by hardliners a long time ago.

None of this will end well.

It's frustrating too, because as recently as just like 2-3 years ago, it felt like everyone understood that these enormous regime changing missions in the middle east were huge, pointless, sucks on vital money, resources, and young lives.

frick Jimmy Carter most of all.

the purpose of the mission is to secure regional hegemony for Israel. I believe it will be successful. Idk if it helps us though. But I mean, that being said it’s always cool to see the US military dropping warheads on foreheads

No country has ever effected a regime change by simply bombing it from the air.

The hope the population will rise up and overthrow their government is betting against long odds.

The comment about cutting off China's oil supply from Iran is true enough but until tanker traffic is restored every country in the world that imports oil is going to feel the effects of this one and it will take months to normalize (i.e. prices to return to something close to pre-war levels and adequate supplies become available).

A side comment, China has stockpiled a lot of oil it can draw on and according to the latest available data was the 6th largest importer of oil from the U.S.

Another thing to consider, the Iranian people for the most part don't have a lot of love for the U.S. regardless of who is in charge there.

Removal of the regime leadership.
Forfeiture of all uranium
New elected (by the people) leadership
A new constitution that makes it impossible to ever build a nuclear weapon

And if they are smart that new constitution would have something similar to the 2nd amendment, allowing civilians to own firearms to keep this crap from ever happening again.

The current regime will never ever do that.

The current regime is dead. Who takes their place will stop funding the Houthis, Hamas and Hezbollah.

Other signs of winning:

China loses discount on oil.
Iran gives up on nuclear program
De-Islamification of Iran. The new state should be a secular state like Turkey was before Erdogan.

There are a growing number of Americans who don't like the US, they're known as Democratic Socialists/Cultural Marxists.
