Not sure why y’all care. It’s a shite hole, remember? New Orleans was here before the United States. It’ll be here after. Worry about your own town. We’ll be fine.
1. New Orleans is part of the state I live in, and I definitely care. I love New Orleans.
2. The state I live in supports New Orleans, not the other way around. So pretty much worrying about my own town, means partially worrying about yours. IOW- when people from NOLA say shite like you just said about the rest of the state that literally takes care of it, we wonder if NOLA loves us back.
3. NOLA needs to fix its problems, and the absolute idiot y’all have running it, is making your problems worse. And that’s sad for your city. And I love your City, so it’s sad for me too.

People have been saying eulogies for Nola ever since I can remember, growing up and living here. Crack epidemic, oil bust, World's Fair disaster, crime capital of the country, Hurricane Katrina, a legacy of bad mayors and city councils continuing to this day, and now COVID-19.
Warts and all, people love this city too much to let it die. That's a rare thing, and it confounds a lot of outsiders. This too shall pass.

I hope you’re right - but that Mayor of yours has y’all
on a suicide mission.

and someone just like the current mayor will be the mayor forever

Probably true - but She is the absolute worst. And I lived in NOLA when Nagin was mayor.
Posted on 4/18/20 at 8:27 pm to Wednesday
Who cares. It's a lost cause.
Posted on 4/18/20 at 8:36 pm to Wednesday
The thing about Nagin was he was too lazy to do anything devious or conniving to actually hurt the city, unlike a Landrieu or Morial. I had to abstain from the last mayoral election since the choices were so bad. LaToya is an incompetent rabble rouser who can't keep her dumb trap shut. She's just as bad as mayor as she was as councilperson.

It already has! As someone who grew up there, I no longer have any desire to enter the Orleans Parish line. Over the past 50+ year the city has shown continued disintegration and it is only getting worse. Their bread & butter tourist industry was already being clobbered by high crime and now the virus has really done a number on it. The final straw for me was removing the statues- after that, I lost any connection with the city. The last time I was in the area, I just stayed in Metairie, glad I live in Texas now...

She needs to. Those events take a long time to plan and coordinate. It's not like you can just say 3 weeks before voodoo vest it's back on again.

Maybe it's not too late to sell it back to France at a discounted price.

Logically, domestic travel will come back before foreign travel. So NOLA might get tourists who cancel that trip to Italy. Of course, conversely, NOLA loses the visitors from Italy who replace international travel with domestic.
Personally I think people are going to mass sooner than municipalities would like, but as a result of the volume / frequency authorities will quickly give up trying to police it, and before you know it concerts and packed stadiums will be back. The mayors such as Cantrell will retreat once it becomes political liability not to retreat.
Just my guess. Could be wrong. But fear-fatigue. That's what will bring back normality. People tire of fearing something. Wasn't long after 9/11 that people were taking commercial flights without much hesitancy.

Yeah but that was nearly 20 years ago and a lot has changed since then

That only shows the people who can or choose to actively participate in the political system the other 200,000 plus are either felons or so illiterate it is a good thing they don't vote.

According to the democrats it suppose to be underwater in 12 years or less.

I would bet good money that she rescinds this pretty quickly

Haiti? She’s actively marketing it to Ghana. And it is a much better fit demographically. We should pay them to take it, as long as they take her, Ray and anyone named Landrieu

So the Sugar Bowl moves elsewhere, the Saints move elsewhere and the Pelicans move elsewhere.
That just leaves Tulane.
