re: What happens when gas gets to $7-$8 even in the south?

I posted a video a few days back that got lost at the backend of a dying thread. I’ll repost it here. It’s from Bloomberg and the reviews the OPEC+ increase, which isn’t going to anything meaningful. The crux is that prices have to continue to go higher in order to slow demand and inflation.
We’re screwed
The challenge you guys will face is going to be even higher logistics costs built into your cost of goods in addition to everything else going on right now. Our cost of living is higher out here but our wages for the lower end are higher than where you’re at. The lower earners back East that aren’t on welfare are going to be pushed into it if they don’t get a better paying job. It wouldn’t shock me if the middle class starts to apply for benefits just to lower the impact. Produce companies are now paying over $15/hr for labor, never mind the additional costs they’ve incurred. That’s gonna leave a mark, dare I say impact (looking at you Realityintheface) on your monthly budget because everything trucked back East from out here is going to skyrocket. Diesel out here has jumped a few dollars in the last couple of months. Which means it’s more everywhere else too.
Things are going to get really really bad this year and into next year at the very least.
As far as an increase in gasoline I’ve seen it go up by roughly 60% over the last year to year and half. How does that compare to where you are?

I haven’t changed anything at this point, but anecdotaly, I can tell you it’s obvious others have… restaurants 50% of what they were a few weeks ago and a lot less traffic on weekends… it’s coming.

I owned a Chevy Colorado once. Good truck. I bought the truck because I wanted to help the auto assembly workers at GM. GM being an American Auto Manufacturer and all. True story. Rah Rah, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet.
But I told GM to f***-off when Obama stole the company from the bond and stock holders. Yep, for the record. Obama stole GM from stock and bond holding retirees. The irony of it all. Pooky's former VP is now busy destroying the country. Including jobs for auto assembly workers at GM. Poetic Justice.
So, I don't do GM anymore.
Having said that, this is for you GM enthusiast and your pal Pooky.

You'll see, because we'll be there by mid-2023.

When you pull the race card, you've already lost the argument. That's what you do when you have nothing of substance to say.

Restaurants in the city are still doing okay out here with patrons. But supplies are short. There are two locally owned restaurants near us that both use Smart & Final and they’re running into trouble getting cleaning supplies and to-go items.
I’m really worried about the mountain communities around here that need summer vacationers and weekend visitors. If families start to cut back on taking trips those places will have a hard time surviving. We were up there last weekend and we stopped at a pizza place called Shaver Lake Pizza. Their large combination pizzas went into $30+ for a 16” 12 slice pie. It’s insane but that’s what they were charging. We were hungry and the pizza was good but I won’t do it again.

That’s when I move to Mackinac Island in Michigan where only bicycles and horse drawn carriages are allowed.

I doubt you will see demand destruction until way over $10 a gallon and $180 a barrel. JMHO

More people should invest in Oil and ride the profits LPI, CPE, SM and CDEV to name a few.

I've been warned by admin here about saying this.
They've gotten to Chicken too.
TD was the last bastion of free speech, and it's no more.
TD is approaching Facebook censorship. I’ll probably get another private message just for mentioning this.

March of 2020 diesel was $1.50 in Ocean Springs, MS it is now $5.00-$5.29 at the same stations..that’s an over 200% increase here

That’s the scary part. You guys are seeing a bigger increase than we are. Now factor in lower wages compared to California, higher transportation costs, higher costs at your local retailer for anything and everything, home prices that are starting to equal what we have out here (minus the swanky Bay Area and SoCal areas)… you guys are likely going to take it on the chin more than we are due to those factors and more. There is only so much people can absorb before they have no choice but to look at a government provided answer and I believe that is the goal here. We aren’t at the point and I don’t foresee that ever being the case but this is far bigger than my personal interest. This is wholly intentional and good people have been targeted by globalist powers. Pray hard and pass the ammo.

While you aren’t wrong, slaves had value, the Irish...not so much. If someone was getting worked to death, it usually was the Irish.

Then who were all of the people on the reservation with me?
You are clearly either trolling, woke beyond repair, or grossly uneducated.

Gas is going up quickly in the past couple days. 30-40 cent increases in my area.
Serious question - will the economy come to a grinding halt at a certain price point?
Will we see the bottom fall out then and then subsequent deflation due to immediate loss of demand?
I would think so.
There is a price that people will not buy things they want. I've found myself changing our spending habits, not necessarily out of necessity, mostly out of principle. I'm not paying $10 a pound for meat or $1 a round for ammo. F that.
And there is a price where people will park their cars unless it is absolutely necessary.
This is an incoming recession. People will tighten their belts. Companies will freeze hiring. Entertainment expenditures and eating out will dwindle, crushing an already fragile service industry. Durable goods purchases will be put off until later.
This happened in 2008 and it will happen again.
Thank this administration for making every decision they can in the exact OPPOSITE direction of sane economic policy.

At some point but where is what we do not know.
Our economy has ran on cheap fuel and low interest since 2014, what had been a boost has become a headwind.

Some dumbass Biden voter will show up here and say something like "Well, there are some things he's done well on and some things where he could have done better. I wasn't expecting much, I'm just glad Trump is gone".
