Not sure what we could see that would make the reports “credible”…

That said, I do agree with the premise behind the rest of your post being a distinct possibility.

Yeah? Kinda like there was enough corroboration to pretty confidently say that Trump was a Russian asset and that he enjoyed golden showers?

Color me skeptical.

What would be the purpose of inflating the numbers? I don't think anyone is disputing that it's in the thousands.

Same reason the “credible sources” said Trump liked Russian hooker peepee. Create artificial outrage by influencing public opinion.

I understand not trusting our 3 letter agencies but they aren't the ones citing these numbers.

Unfortunately this doesn't appear to be a hoax.

Internal agencies to Iran aren’t exactly unbiased sources either… I am not saying that it is 100% a hoax, my overall point is that nothing can be said for sure and that airing these reports has one cause:

fomenting public dissent, one way or another

So would it be your preference that nothing is ever reported on?

The internet has been off for over 400 hours. I try my best to sift through fact and fiction. There is one constant from the diaspora, and that is, when they do get any form of contact from Iran, it is a universal belief that the death and killing is the worst they have seen by the government, ever.

We don't know if that's 10k or 80k dead because everything is blacked out and disjointed. But you can, to some extent, extrapolate the numbers.

I'm certain that our government has a "range" of deaths.

One thing is certain, that internet isn't coming back on willingly.

We'll eventually get more clarity but it appears that things are in fact horrific. There is no rational reason to believe otherwise. The Russian angle this guy is pulling is worth noting but I don't think it really applies here. I think he is saying that because he doesn't want to believe that things are as bad as they appear. And I can't blame him for that.

There's also the cluster F... of weapons of mass destruction. I get the distrust. I have it too.

I'm hoping for mass bombing, arm the citizens and hope a power vacuum doesn't start.

Is that how it's going to go? Idk ...

But this is the best opportunity to give the Iranians a shot and we can take out a world class bad actor by doing so.

Hopefully it doesn't go beyond that.

Option 1 or Option 1B.

1-The protests are suppressed

1B- More protesters are killed and then they are suppressed

If we get close to this number arrested or otherwise in MN we wouldn’t be halfway done cleaning it up.

We have some dirty cities.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but that is a whole galaxy and possibly an entire dimension away from nabbing Maduro.

I definitely appreciate that you’re not being combative, that tells me you definitely put thought into things. Not a commonplace occurrence round these parts, as you likely know.

The bolded is what throws me a bit… We have a bit of an obsession in this country with “best/worst ever” outcomes and labels. It all sounds sensational.

Right, but are those numbers actual, or purported? I personally doubt any media outside of Iran, especially our media, has actual reliable sources there. Extrapolation in international affairs can cause actual war.

Our government likely knows a far more accurate estimate based on how we had spies in the Iran nuke program verifying nuke assets real-time before the bombing op we pulled off (military/CIA assets/spies).

I don’t doubt at all that the internet is gone for a good while.

I do feel like there is something none of us know that stopped us pushing in Iran’s b-hole.

I don’t think they are going to be using public death toll reports to inform any military action, though.

No. I think that we need to be patient and intelligent about information that we both consume and act on.

That goes for both the government and us as citizens

Agreed. We can't go in there like Leroy Jenkins after the first sign of trouble. I think Trump was hoping that the mere threat of intervention might help subdue things. He was wrong unfortunately but I don't know that he really had an opportunity to act differently.
