have not?

I have analyzed the strange phemonom of our political leaders claiming to have accomplished things they most certainly have not. This is the result of a person whose highest goal is the pursuit of power, for power itself. Gore invented the internet. Hilliary under sniper fire at the airport. Everything Biden just said. These people have obtained the highest level of power, but when they look back they see no accomplishments, besides getting elected. Their big egos can't accept this. One decade they are talking about super predators, the next criminal justice reform. They never actually do anything, because they never actually believed in anything, besides power.

It usually means they're speaking

Politicians love taking credit for shite that has nothing to do with them. That's how the game is played.

That is true and a part of it. But these huge lies, unforced errors that hurt campaigns. That's not the way the game is played. That is a manifestation of psychological pathology. That is a consequence of a bad life and bad choices.

Trump had plenty of unforced errors in 2016 and still won

I told someone at work that I "Bidened" that. They knew exactly what I meant

Massive ego.

Al Gore claiming to have invented the Internet because he sponsored some bills that beefed up the predecessor to the Web comes to mind.

I think at least three interrelated things are going on here,

1. Folks kiss their arse once they are in any sort of position of authority, so they actually start to believe the flattery that has them doing/participating in some accomplishment when they have done NOTHING,

2. There is always the urge to pad the resume (at least with regards to accomplishment) when applying for a job - well, a politician is campaigning fully half the time they are in office and that is a very public, extended form of job interview. They say something blatantly false so often they and their staff forget it's BS and start to believe it. That bakes it in to their campaign spiel, and

3. The urge to make those connections with voters prompts a little white lie to get to that connection (Joe Biden, "I was also a poor black child, raised in a ghetto"), which gets bigger and then ultimately they're going all Brian Williams without fully realizing it.

I'm not giving them a pass, but this is my best take on why it happens so consistently with politicians.

no different than anyone else.
these type people have a low self worth and think they must promote themselves (lie) in order to better themself.

my son as a child did this and now as a 33 yr. old continues to make up stories to inflate himself.

it's sad and really unnecessary.

Brian Williams as you know is not a politician though he may claim to have served the public.

stretching the truth a little can become a huge lie if repeated long enough.
these Dem politicians just make it up as they go. the media is complicit and will repeat such lies without question.

My assumption is that they make up these stories first just to impress their friends or family. Then they keep telling it so many times that either they slip up in public, or they convince themselves that it really happened.

Also consider the fact that the politicians you mentioned are all around 70 years old, so their mental capacities are already diminishing.

Biden has had the reputation in D.C. of being the biggest bullshiter in a room of bullshiters and has had that reputation since before he ran for President in 1988. He has a penchant to have to prove to you that he is a tough guy and at the forefront of, well, EVERYTHING.

In 2008 he made some boast about being in the Oval Office with Bush sometime in 2005 or 2006 and said something to the affect that he told Bush his Iraq planwas an abject failure and that nobody was buying what he(Bush) was saying. Both Andy Card, and Karl Rove were like, WTF, this never happened, there are minutes and records of the meetings and Biden hardly said anything.

The thing is, personally, Biden is a very nice guy. He's not terribly bright though. Not stupid, just not exceptionally insightful or intelligent

It goes all the way back to kings. Their stump speech was that they were chosen by God to rule with absolute authority. And when they die God wants their kid to rule.
