In my mind it's what is driving all of this. Without a functioning press corps, the powerful will not be held accountable. And once they side completely with one side, we have what we have now.
The worst part is that the current legacy media still functions within the appearance of legitimacy they earned/were given over the course of the past 100 years. Even though I know they are full of shite, even I will see a major news network or formerly major newspaper and think "real." From the production value to everything...it STILL feel like real news, even though I know it's pure propaganda. I get why political normies are gripped by it.
I think there are lots of fixes for problems ailing the country...but this one stumps me. There's no easy way of reigning in the power of the press, and I'm not sure I'd want one. And given how completely separated our country is in terms of politics now each side will always see the opposite as "fake news" so I don't think there's much traction that can be gained in trying to convince either they're wrong.
With as much fraud as I think took place in 2020, I think the biggest reason for Trump's loss was this issue right here. A press corps entirely all in for one side an no longer functioning as imagined by the Founders when giving them 1st Amendment protections.

Many people don't have the patience to think about what they see and hear. They will find whatever source that confirms thier already held beliefs and hear nothing else.

Groomers have it made in today's upside down society .....+90% of news media outlets are spewing the propaganda that pleasantly tickles and caresses their ears.

Turn off your TV. Put down your phone. Hang out with your kids, family, friends, neighbors. Just live your life.

Trust is the enemy of critical thinking.
The people who own the media (banking families) have nearly endless wealth. It's laughable to believe that such people wouldn't use a tiny fraction of that wealth to control the masses, but most people never even question.

1) It would be incredibly stupid for Trump to bring Nuclear Weapons to MAL. But he's not a stupid guy.
(2) Trump says such accusations are garbage. There is a track record. When he's made similar claims in the past, he's been correct virtually every time.
(3) I haven't seen a claim of attorney client privilege, but outsiders accessing materials such as Obama's letter to Trump are absolute and obvious breeches of Executive Privilege.
(4) Regarding MSM and Dem accusations or counterpoints. There is a track record on that accord as well. When there were similar claims in the past, they turned out to be false virtually every time.
So what to believe? Well as the saying goes, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
What a great post! My initial thought in the OP’s question is that there are people, and to be specific, Christian people, that have the gift of discernment. But even in the Christian community they are not able to always use that gift an influence because so many Christians forget how to be humble and seek the truth. Back in the day, if I said Rush is a constant source of truth and unmatched analysis, inevitably some conservative has to say ‘he’s not smart enough’, ‘he’s not a true conservative’, ‘he has this flaw or that flaw’. It’s just amazing how even Christians have such a spirit of denying the truth in front of their eyes because they can’t humble themselves. The truth can be found, and it can be found in the media, the question is, does the individual have the discernment or the courage to embrace it.

This ^^^^ is precisely why the constitutional republic is near collapse.....because decent God fearing patriots have sat around fat and happy ignoring the threat from the cultural Marxists.

A legitimate media are the great equalizer that keeps government honest. We no longer have that in America unfortunately.
The honest person will ask themself why the media ALWAYS touts one party vs the other. Credibility is lost when the media tell us that all left issues are righteous and the right are always wrong. Legitimately there are some good, some bad on both sides.
The growing divide and lack of middle ground has Americans pulling for the other party to fail. It would be nice if one would say, “I didn’t vote for (insert name), but I sure hope he goes a great job for America and proves me wrong.” But the media pushes a one-way-or-the-highway mantra now.
And of course social media have taken the sword to free speech which eliminates honest debate and conversation.
