He came out BEFORE his second election in 2012. It would have been INSANE for him to have come out in 2008. The DNC didn't even address gay marriage until 2008 and it wasn't given a plank until 2012
This is one of those threads where I give Toddy credit for sticking to his guns and being pretty well informed. I may not be an advocate for the cause, but I really don't care that much, TBH. Should not be a federal issue, and questioning the overall legal framework of marriage is a reasonable debate.
That being said, Obama did not show courage with this. Just like HRC, his stance has always been 99% political calculation and 1% conviction, just like all the Democratic senators that lost their shite over moving the embassy to Jerusalem (in spite of voting for it in 1995) and Schumer now being all "DACA! DACA! DACA!" (in spite of speaking against illegal immigration in 2009).
Don't get me wrong. Republicans do this, too, but I honestly believe it is less prevalent or pervasive with them.
In either case, though, it's the rubes that don't call them out and force them to own the change that is the problem. It's straight out of 1984: "Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia."
