So you can live anywhere and you are choosing Texas?

Not even a knock on Texas, just a hell of a top 2.

that post right there perfectly sums up the mentality of a Democrat voter. SOMEONE else always has to take care of them.

as if the OP (or any able bodied American) can't just pick up and do for themselves? they have to be slaves to a system and rely on someone else all the time?

The people leaving are working-class and college-educated.

We’ve discussed this with our CPA, if we move our residence to TX we would save about $30-40K a year in taxes.
This depends on many factors, but for most people the total tax burden would be pretty similar in LA and TX. The bigger difference is the cost of living is much higher in Texas.

My parents recently moved from Texas to Louisiana, taking a pay cut in the process, and all told they are much better off here. They are in a bigger and newer, yet cheaper house, and they are saving thousands in property taxes too. Their utility bills are about half what they were in Texas, so they are saving thousands there too. Groceries are also cheaper, so they are saving thousands more.

The only way I can figure you'd save $40k in taxes by moving to Texas is if you're pulling about $1million per year, so congrats on that.

It's probably a little easier to move to Texas.

I lived in Youngsville
Less house cost more there than Katy
Had two kids in private school in la
Moved to Katy and both graduated with honors from KISD 6A schools and are thriving at Texas and Houston
Roads here are new, four lane boulevards with street lights and sidewalks
Drainage in areas is bad, great in others
Cops are good, fire dept, ambulance are all good
Plenty of doctors, and professional services choices
I don’t see the higher cost of living here than LA because we make more money and we get what our taxes pay for
Whole area is deep red too

Funny, my parents moved to Broussard from south of Fort Worth, and they got more house for less in Broussard.

All of these are fine in my parents' and in my necks of the woods.

You don't see it, or you haven't bothered to calculate it? It's an honest question, because my parents are legit saving $1-200/month on utilities, about $100/month on groceries, and about $500/month on the mortgage. The LA income tax vs. the Texas property taxes are basically a wash.

Same job, same company, different state, nicer house, ~$8-10k/year cheaper to live.

It all depends on the circumstances. The grass isn't always greener.

It's not that there is too much traffic, it's that our infrastructure is 30 years behind. Ask yourself where all that money went.

Which city are you wanting to move to? Where from? What do you do?

I mean, for some people it's probably a good move no matter who is governor. For others, you may have other options or be in an insulated industry/locality.
