The girlfriend and her two kids, along with 7 healthcare workers. Straight from the CDC Director's mouth this am.

Here's a related link.

Dallas (CNN) -- Thomas Eric Duncan, the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States, is now in critical condition, a Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital spokeswoman said Saturday.

The Liberian man had previously been listed as being in serious condition. Hospital spokeswoman Candace White offered no new details other than his condition.

Earlier, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Duncan was in intensive care.

About 10 people are at "higher risk" of catching Ebola after coming into contact with Duncan but have shown no symptoms, health officials said Saturday.
The group is among 50 people being monitored daily, but the other 40 are considered "low risk," said Dr. David Lakey, the commissioner of Texas department of state health services.

The nine people who had definite contact with the Ebola patient -- including family members and health care professionals -- have been monitored and show no symptoms or fevers, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Saturday.

I'm so confused. Did he tell the nurse where he was from & his recent contact with a person infected with Ebola? It just doesn't make sense that the nurse would forget to tell others AND have no regard for her personal health knowing she had been in such close contact with him.

People here believe that he knew that he was infected with Ebola, but withheld that information thinking that he would be "overplaying his hand."

So he just told the nurse, who didn't relay it to the doctor supposedly, and the guy didn't emphasize the concern to the doctor directly for the same reason.

But he definitely flew here knowing he was infected.

Yes. He told the Doctor too, or at least the Doctor did have access to the info.

Duncan still did not seem to know the 19y/o pregnant girl had Ebola. During the first Dallas Hospital visit, his symptoms were mild, and he apparently denied any contact with Ebola patients in Liberia.

So the answer is, no one there suspected it.

I really have a hard time believing he didn't at least suspect the 19 y/o had Ebola or could possibly have had Ebola.

Nevertheless, that was the history he gave . . . . with his life on the line.

Yep

A Dallas hospital says a man who has Ebola initially told an emergency room nurse that he had no contact with anyone who was ill when he was in Liberia.

CDC is like the Keystone Kops. They are 3 or 4 steps behind. It's out. The only question left to answer is how bad will it get.

I can tell you this. I'm not risking exposing my family by caring for infected people unless some iron clad protective measures are in place. And I can guarantee you that I'm not the only health care worker that feels this way.

As I've said before, information about this disease is sorely lacking. This is due to the CDC's fear of fear itself. Honest, easy to understand explanations of mode of transmission, incubation period, signs and symptoms of disease from early onset and progression to end stage,

It's almost criminally negligent for the CDC to require that healthcare facilities post this information about the fricking flu...but not Ebola.

My two cents worth - 1. Instead of tracking flights from western Africa how come more hasn't been said about tracking the passengers themselves who originate from western Africa? Hell, someone could take a flight from there to the U.S. by way of China or Japan, etc.

2. for those that are saying this is really no big deal - having to be monitored for up to 21 days is a big deal whether you end up with it or not. That's still a rather significant interruption in one's daily life. Seems it would put any travel plans on shaky ground.

Right. As far as I'm aware, no US commercial carrier flies in or out of Liberia. There no direct flights via any carrier to the US.

Europe was weird in the 90's.

Show a passport at Frankfort. "Business or pleasure"?

"Business".

"How long are you staying"?

"Less than 30 days". Thanks HR department!

No stamp, just a "proceed" to your luggage with an arm wave.

A couple of years later I flew into Amsterdam. Red eye, 3AM. Schiphol. There is nobody at the passport desk. I go to get my luggage and walk into this room with luggage piled upon luggage along the wall.

Netherlands is without a doubt, the most fricked-up country I have ever been in.

I like Netherlands.

Left Amsterdam airport on layover:

Hand over passports.

"What are you doing here?"

"Just going to look around a bit before our flight later today"

STAMP

Walk into country.

As it should be

I find Europe as a whole to be pretty lax on passport security.

I flew into Munich and I don't even think they asked me where I was from. Just looked at my passport and waved me through
