1. Jobs don't get created just because people aren't on welfare. Any keeping out illegals won't make up the difference in job offerings.

This was the argument in Maine, but it didn't pan out in reality. People found jobs, and many MADE jobs. When your back's against the wall and you need to find a way to feed your hungry infant and keep a roof over its head, you find a way.

The only reason we have illegal immigrants in this country (notice, we didn't have hardly any up until the 1970's) is because they would do the dirty jobs our poor had the option of choosing not to do thanks to our insane entitlement system. SOMEONE had to do those jobs, so they filled the void.

The rise in illegal immigration started right after the onset of the war on poverty.

Get rid of the illegals and the welfare recipients will have jobs. If they won't take the job, no welfare.

But it must start with the illegals.

The media has now become so unhinged, that I do believe they have lost the power of their impact. Their spear has been bent. Only the true-believers can be swayed anymore. There are lots of true-believers, but they are going to be deluded regardless of the media.

With Trump doubling down on the media with results, those who are at all rational will not be deluded.

They just handle it plain and simple

Absolutely THIS /\

Hunger is a great motivator - let the bastards starve, or be put in a fenced off soup kitchen to keep them from dying in the street (as a public hygiene concern)

No sympathy for lazy thugs.

Take care of truly disabled, but purge the disability roles immediately - too much bullshite going on here.

So what did Ted Cruz do? He campaigned in Iowa on ending all ag subsidies, including corn. He went from town to town and answered every critic. He faced every angry constituent. He explained exactly why his policy was the best for America and how it would actually benefit them. Trump, in all of his MAGA glory didn't want to take that risk. He won the support of the sitting governor by coming out in favor of corn subsidies.

didn't know that about cruz, that's great

Remember back in the day when your parents made you do things you didn't like but in the end they were in your best interest?

Remember how you despised them for that time period because you thought you knew better.

Pretty much the same thing.

Not by % of their race vs total population in the U.S.

Reform needs to do two things. Impose training/work requirements and stop penalizing them for having an income other than welfare.

Probably need time limits on receiving benefits

1. Require Work/Education requirements. SNAP already does this - although work requirements were waived for almost the entire period of the Obama Presidency due to the crappy economy and even now are very easy to get around- and a few states are adding those requirements to Medicaid. Kentucky is currently undergoing a massive change right now that is expected to go into effect July 2018 that will require all able-bodied adults to pay a small premium to receive MA, have work/education/volunteer requirements, and other changes as well.

2. Set a lifetime limit on how long you can receive benefits. TANF (what people are talking about when they talk about "Welfare Queens") already has a lifetime limit of 36 months. Add those limits to SNAP and Medicaid maybe not necessarily 36 months but something.

3. For SNAP set a household size limit for the amount of SNAP benefits that you can receive. Currently, if you are eligible you receive benefits on every eligible person in your household no matter how many people live there. If you set a limit at, say 5 people, then you can still receive SNAP benefits if you have more than that living in your home but you will only ever receive benefits based on a family size of 5. That would, hopefully, discourage people from continuing to pop out children for the sake of increased benefits.

The counter argument to #3 is that people aren't having kids simply to get a few more dollars in food stamps because having a kid costs way more than the extra food stamps they receive each month. Yes, that is true, however, you fail to take into account that people aren't rational. I used to work with those people every day and I can't tell you how many times someone would come into my office angry because their food stamps were decreased by $100 a month because they started working and were now making $500 a month. Even though they were netting an extra $400 a month they would quit their jobs simply to get back the free $100 in food stamps that they lost.

I think those 3 changes would go a long way towards meaningful welfare reform.

Welfare reform isn't near important enough to justify the political problems it creates

Long-term welfare users should not be allowed to vote either.

Welfare Reform

anyone think it's ironic that people living in the welfare states of America are calling for reform the loudest?

I agree that reform needs to take place, but the reform you want is a process. In order for it to be successful, it's a lengthy ordeal beginning with education.

Oh, look! More irony...the welfare states are also the worst in education. Education reform!!! Wait, that costs money out of my paycheck. Never mind!

Donald Trump tackling welfare reform is like me playing for a NFL team...OUT OF PLACE!

If he's going to begin the process, do it the right way. Fund education.

If you can't take care of yourself and your family for years at a time why should you be allowed to vote?

People who live on handouts for long periods of time vote those in who will keep the gravy train rolling.

U.S. spends more per student than any country in the world.
What are we getting out of it?

No one is talking about Percentages of people. There more Caucasian Americans on food stamps then blacks period. Therefore, the total amount of dollars spent on the program is higher amount Caucasian Americans

Here is how you do welfare reform properly:

1) GOP realizes anyone on welfare will NEVER vote for them, ever
2) Keep the House
3) Pick up a few seats in the Senate
4) Do it...frick the Dems
