Just easily shown to be more probable now

I guess. In the same way that it's probable that an ATM within 100 yds of a liquor store could be affiliated with such abuse.

The point is their welfare system is set up to abuse funds.

the article says they can't prove if any funds were actually spent on weed. It's all circumstantial.

Kinda like the little girl that sold all of those Girl Scout cookies right in front of the weed shop. Probably just circumstantial that mostly munchers were buying the cookies.

Just going to comment that most of these weed shops are cash only due to banking regulations, that is why they have ATMs in there.

Now that the banking rules changed, I wouldn't be surprised to see some of those ATMs be removed so the welfare recipients will withdraw from other places and then you can scream about them buying whatever.

and honestly 64 times and $5k is nothing. They estimate it will be a BILLION dollar industry in a few years. Not sure I agree but $5k isn't even noise on that.

Low-life stoners are going to be low-life stoners. What's so surprising?

Fwiw, the pot lobby wanted this banned the same way it is for liquor stores.

Without a direct link to actually purchasing weed, this is completely meaningless. Weed shops are cash only businesses and because of that they always have ATMs on site. People know this, and often they just duck into a pot shop to get some cash when there is no closer ATM. I know a friend of mine did so last month when we went to visit Denver.

No, it was attempted to be shown, but the reality is that these welfare recipients can go to an ATM and withdraw cash for whatever they want, booze and cigarettes included.

and that's how it should be. Everything else is moralizing.

I kind of agree with you a little on this, but I don't think it's outrageous for taxpayers to want to know where their money is going. They would feel more comfortable knowing their hard earned money is going to sustain life rather than it going to party habits.

but you can't do anything about it.

There is an underground economy turning food-only card payments into what people want. Even if we made payments in actual foodstuffs people could just sell it.

IMO, saying "stop giving money to poor people" makes more sense than bitching about where they spend what they are given.

I get it.

I think people don't mind helping out others as long as the state attempts to try to keep the fraud to a minimum.

I also think this is why many would rather have charities handle this type of thing rather than the state.

Absolutely. The food pantry at our local church never empties out.

I think it's disgusting that $1 is spent on booze, cigarettes, junk food and other drugs by people who are on govt assistance but it's been happening for a long, long time. There's no need to affiliate that misuse with the weed industry.
