2017 was the 2nd warmest year on record...fact

The arctic waters are getting warmer and warmer each decade...fact

we are having some unbelievably cold weather right now...fact

the left over analyzed 'Global Warming' and have manipulated it to overinvest in alternative energies...fact

the right, like with religion (Christianity), manipulates scientific hypothesis with scientific fact to prove/disprove their agenda (i.e. Trump's latest tweet)

To date, there are many examples that link manmade pollution (carbon emissions) to the threat of global warming. But, I also don't believe any of it to be scientific fact. There is no absolute proof but rather good evidence pointing to a relationship between the two. But, again, the political manipulation of both sides create the divide to really do what's right. And, that's not just throwing money at it nor is it to ignore it.

that said, by scientific evidence, global warming is real. what may not ever be known is how much we contribute to it with pollution. climate change surely may be a normal scientific phenomena. does that just mean we ignore the threats that it brings? Donald Trump says yes.

I'm really unsure how much time and money should be thrown at these issues/concerns, but we can't just stop the research. But, the money grabs with alternative energy is/was not helping the cause.

What do we do? Where do we stand?

What about the Antarctic?

NASA.gov
quote:

Since the late 1970s, the Arctic has lost an average of 20,800 square miles (53,900 square kilometers) of ice a year; the Antarctic has gained an average of 7,300 square miles (18,900 sq km). On Sept. 19 this year, for the first time ever since 1979, Antarctic sea ice extent exceeded 7.72 million square miles (20 million square kilometers), according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Yes more overal ice is melting than freezing, but that has been the case for 10s of thousands of years. I don’t know what it all means, but it’s just strange there are still areas growing. Almost like there is far more in play than humans blanketing the globe in greenhouse gases.

Seems like it fluctuates between areas, and If one is growing the other was always going to be receding at a higher rate unless we reverse a trend that been in motion since our cavemen days

^ We really could have used Al Gore 14,000 years ago

You do realize we are in a global cooling period right now, correct? If memory serves, it started about 10 years ago and is expected to be a 20 year trend.

ETA: my mistake, period started in 2000 and will last until 2030.

technology will solve our emissions problems itself, even without government regulation

emissions are seen as waste, imagine how much money could and will be made when industry is able to capture those waste emissions and turn that into profit?

everybody wins and we are not that far off from this being reality

The climate is not, nor has it ever been stagnant. Earth has gone through periods of warming and cooling multiple times- all of it in a time before mankind was ever capable of affecting the environment in any significant way.

The climate alarmists have been trying to cause panic since the 70’s, starting with the impending “Big Freeze” and continuing with the impending acid rain apocalypse, through Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth” bullshite, all the way to it being re-branded as “climate change” (since the climate was not acting the way the alarmists kept predicting).

We should want to take care of our home and our environment, but the alarmists need to realize that a LOT of the data that they cite has been proven to have been fudged so as to make things look much worse than they are. The Government should be incentivizing companies to become greener, rather than taxing and increasing regulations in an attempt to strong-arm them into submission. Carrot > Stick.

Bingo.

Read a number of recent studies using CO2 + Steam + electricity (which could be solar/nuclear/whatever non-carbon based source) to make methane. Another group went a similar direction, but made some syngas and fischer tropsch to make heavier liquid fuels. We need to be better at carbon capture, but there's a whole lot of potential in making ourselves an artificial carbon cycle and using liquid fuels made from CO2 to store the energy instead of batteries.

Technological innovation is the only solution that is politically and economically viable.

Spot on +. You're wasting your time tho. You can't reason a person out of a position that wasn't reasoned into in the first place. They're brainwashed cult members.
Sad.

I think the culters are referring to the satellite record...which goes back a whole 40 years or so. Take out the 17 year pause in temps and you have a little over 20 years of accurate measurements.
