I was listening to an interview with the big12 commissioner on Sirius this morning and he said:

"we are making a conscious effort to make the referees in our conference look like the players on the field".

Great, quotas for referees, not the most qualified, quotas.

As long as they don’t look like Tom Ritter they’ll be fine.

NFL has been pushing it for years. Now the big push is for women.

You shouldn’t have to look like a college kid to be a ref in the big12

Easy enough. Put them in uniforms complete with shoulder pads, helmets and facemasks, and gloves.

“Not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character...”

Oh so you mean by the color of their skin? Got it.

They want them to look overhyped?

Remember, it's fine for the players to not represent the demographics of America. In fact, it's celebrated.

Unproportional representation is only a problem when it applies to white people.

They're doing a great job of this, as refs seem to think they're actually part of the competition, as they take over more and more games.

Or Asians. I've sat through many a diversity seminar related to making engineering look more like the population. The thing no one ever addressed is that white people are actually properly represented while blacks and Latinos are under. The only way to make it more reflective would be to drop the Asian % down from 17% to 2-3% range.

To be fair, no one has ever suggested limiting the number of white or Asian degree seekers, just trying to increase the other groups through targeted recruitment (extra scholarships) and being more socially conscious.

I'd love to see a ref look like this:

Women on the other hand... nope stick to being cheerleaders

The Big 12 or NFL can push for diverse refs but you have to have ones at the lower level working their way up to even be recruited.

Main black refs I remember when I was in HS were on the crew of Doug Williams’ brother when we were playing Northeast at Doug Williams Field and all the calls were going their way.

We've all seen it for years, everyone on the job KNOWS the person isn't qualified and they are terrible at the job BUT they are a diversity hire so let's parade them around
