We need to have a discussion about the militarization of police

The militarization of police is the worst unintended consequence of liberal stupidity I've ever seen.
For those too young to remember it started with the F.B.I. shootout in Miami, the anti-gun grifters started pushing the "Police are outgunned, they have 38s and the criminals have AKs", but the American people didn't say "OMG we have to get rid of guns!!!" they said what can we do to make things more even.
So the government started handing out military surplus items and soon every podunk politician started angling for a fourth of July parade vehicle of their own and the media helped push it. I remember a local newscast from back then that had a story about a drug bust where they said drugs and dangerous guns were taken off the streets, it was 7 dimebags of weed, a handful of Xanax and 5 Vicodin, the guns were a crackback shotgun, a Daisy pellet gun and a starter pistol.
Slimeball politicians soon realized it was easier to give out grants so local PDs could just buy what they need and have extra to train with. And if you take federal monies they get to tell you what to do if you want it. That's how we got here.

It’s just for show, they won’t do anything, just stand by and watch the rioters.

If anything, these riots actually justify the militarization of the police...

I'm a firm believer in the idiot behind a badge concept, totally, but that equipment is generally needed for SWAT teams. I was in LA during the 1997 Bank of America shootout in North Hollywood, and an entire Division were totally outgunned by just 2 thugs.

Maybe, but the problem is that you can't pay people enough to do that job for just the amount of pay you get. You can't pay people $100,000 a year to be a beat cop.

maybe not where you live, i'm in flower mound tx. we have a 150k household median income. we're a suburb of DFW. fantastic public schools! no crime at all, we're 87% white and we pay our police handsomely.

flower mound police pay and benefits

Police Officer (Released from PTO Training) - $69,451.20 - $82,908.80

Police Officer Recruit (After Academy Graduation) - $65,478.40

Police Officer Cadet (In Academy) - $63,564.80

and our cops have all the toys we've got APC's, SWAT team and mobile emergency command unit.

all to give traffic tickets to milfs!

our cops start at double the wages of dallas cops.

that's one of the reasons dallas can't hire cops, the other reason is because the city council gambled away their pension fund in some shady back room deal.

Apparently, we need a stronger and more powerful police presence

The answer is never, more government.

If people want to protect their neighborhoods or if they care enough to, they should ban together and form militias. That was the original intent anyway. When you turn over your right to self-defense to the government you've essentially put your life in their hands. That's a very dangerous position to be in. You should be able to rely on yourself, family, friends and community for protection. Never government. Never.

The police are not a private company. They're part of govt. All govt agencies work on a simple principle. If you don't spend ALL of your budget, it will be cut.
So, when tax revenue goes up they have to create a need to spend the extra money.
'We really need a tank.'
It happened here.

Welcome to phase 3, citizens begging for the United States militarized police state.

frick all of you that are even considering this as a good idea. It’s a super slippery slope that borderlines unconstitutional.

Give em an inch, they’ll take the whole gotdamn country.
