But it’s not the truth. This country hasn’t been plurality immigrant in almost two centuries. People that are born here are Americans, regardless of where their great great great grandparents or parents were born.
The sooner we stop calling Americans by the hyphenated name of wherever their ancestors came from, the better. Our status as Americans and the rights conferred upon us does not change based on your family tree’s country of origin.
It’s time for everyone to take pride in that.

In that case everyone who isn’t from central Eastern Africa is forever an immigrant. No one would be anywhere without immigration. It’s a stupid platitude that hasn’t practically applied to the United States since the mid 19th century.
After a generation is born here, that new generation are not immigrants. They are Americans. Not African American, European American, Mexican American, or Asian American. They’re Americans. Their parents may be those things, but they are not.

It's the very illegality of the presence of illegal, criminal aliens, that bothers most people.
