Nixon is a choirboy compared to modern dems

He was basically busted doing what other campaigns did. The absurd thing is his team felt the need to engage in illegal activity during an easy election that was in the bag

I believe he was a great president and congressman before that.

I also think he made the right decision to resign

Watergate looks like child’s play compared to Spygate. Nixon had a lot of foreign policy success especially with opening up China to the West but he was also a ruthless politician and paranoia is part and parcel of that.

It is an interesting documentary. I'm pretty right wing, but I'm not sure you can call nothing but your own audio recordings a hatchet job. He said what he said. Some of it, while brutal, was true. Some of it showed not only his paranoia, but also his alcoholism toward the end.

Nixon is such an interesting study. While a genius when it came to foreign policy, his economic policy caused much of the late 70's economic mess. Wage/Price controls are straight from the left wing play book.

Strangely, today, he'd be considered a RINO at best, and mostly like a Democrat. He did after all create the EPA.

He planned to use the recordings in assembling his autobiography. He mistakenly thought they could not be obtained d/t ExecutivePrivilege and separation of powers. Once the SCOTUS ruled, he should have accidentally stored them a couple of days with a strong magnet or two. Nixon was bright, but he made catastrophic decisions following the break-in. I'm not sure he was all there by 1974. Whether that was the result of heavy alcohol consumption or some other pathology, he just seemed to fall apart.

The media hated Nixon from the get go.
Even when he 1st got into politics as a California assembly man the press was against him.

Didnt know he was an alcoholic. And yes some of what he said was quite prophetic.

He was always a heavy drinker, as were many in that day.

He was absolutely an alcoholic toward the end.

Ironically, while many think of Betty Ford when it came to drunk First Ladies, Pat Nixon was far worse than her. Betty just mixed other things in with the booze.

/\ AMEN /\ to that

My recollection of the Plumber's was that it was an effort to find out about the leaks of the Pentagon Papers - People from CREEP were invovolved but their mission was to stop the leaks.

I thought he was one of our greatest presidents - with at least one foot made of clay. I never felt so bad as when I discoed that he had actually lied to us.

And just because he was paranoid, doesn't mean they were not out to get him. I was in California when he ran for Gov out there and made his "won't have Nixon to kick around anymore" - that campaign was viscous - all the media was in the tank against him - always had an unflattering photo to accompany any coverage he got.

I don't view this as a positive.
