No worries, man. I mean, you're wrong because the Presidential pardon power has no restrictions outside of pardoning someone from impeachment. It would've been challenged, sure, but Trump could've tried and at least held up solitary confinement for J6thers until SCOTUS ruled, right?
Even if his pre-emptive pardon was eventually determined to be wrong (which I disagree with) wouldn't another year or two be better for them than what happened?
