California is a far-left state and Gavin had some no-name Republican put up 41% on him in 2022. Charlie Crist got under 40% in Florida, which was a swing state before 2022. That's crazy. Not saying DeSantis would've beaten Newsom, as I don't think Reagan could win California right now, but it's not crazy to think that a stronger candidate could've gotten in the mid-high 40's.

He is. That education loss statement is probably the most insane one so far. If he was confident in that he would state numbers.
It's almost certainly the same as his migration lie; where the census says 2x more moved from CA to FL than vice-versa. There is absolutely some time period in which that is true - so he said it and fact checkers can now say he was "mostly right" using that time period. Even though it's nonsense in the context of the question.
