I think I remember an article from years ago that talked about the thousands of military weapons that were "lost"
Delta Airlines straight up "lost" one of our SAW's when we flew a small group commercial.

This was my first thought. No way a SAW goes on 20 round bursts more than once without jamming or running away. Never happen.

It didnt sound like a 249.
Yall must have better ears than me. I've heard and shot the 249 & 240B many times, and I still don't know how yall can tell which one it was from a video.
Especially video taken when the shooter was hundreds of yards away.

They are saying this guy had mounts and scopes. That screams SAW to me.

Mounts AND scopes, dude. Everyone knows a SAW cannot function without both attached

I was an armor crewman and there’s two 240’s on the abrams. With all the buildings there distorting the sound and the quality of the videos I watched, I can’t be sure but I wouldn’t put money on the 240. Logistics would be another issue but if he was up there several days he may have had time to bring it up. The thing I noticed was the length of the bursts and his reload times. I initially thought he may have drum mags because he was awfully slow to be dumping 30rd mags. But belt fed seemed plausible so maybe the saw is what it was.

Oh shite. How are they even allowed to handle those weapons?

SAW? Sometimes you military folks can be a little hung-ho with all the shop talk. WTF is SAW? TIA.
Then maybe you should be like Hillary and do some research before opening you cock holster....SAW = squad automatic weapon. It is a Belt feed &/or magazine feed 5.56 light machine gun that was used by the USMC

Why is it called Squad Automatic Weapon? Just one per Squad?
1 per fireteam so 3 in a squad and 9 in a Platoon.

Padlocked in a gun case under the plane like regular luggage.

I just assumed that y'all had someone supervising something like that.

The two biggest factors in making sure they don't jam is keeping them clean and having separate barrels for live fire and blanks. The rosette crimp on a blank tends to scar the chamber which eventual leads to improper loading/jams. So we kept an extra barrel with a BFA permenatly attached for FEX's.

was a saw gunner for 2 years, sounded like one to me. fire rate was too fast for m240B
ETA a rant. shot expert 5 years in a row and had m249 my last 2 years. makes TOTAL sense to give a fricking area target wep to me and an m4 to some pizza box boot.

I think the M240B is the only one that's exclusive to the USMC

Are you under the impression that the Army doesn't have SAW's in almost every unit? The size of the army compared to the marines makes it not "primarily" a marine weapon.
