Richmond had an incredible Confederate museum when I lived there 40 years ago, they moved it and changed the name and added a bunch of nonsense to it.

They had the notebook of a scout who was with Stonewall when he was shot, with a musket hole in it.

J.E.B. Stuart's plummed calvary hat.

Lots of incredible history.

Jeopardy question: Of those who can name a horse in the war between the states, nearly 90% answer this.......Who is Traveller Robert E Lees horse.

Traveller had a corral next to Lee's house at Washington and Lee University. He died not long after Lee. They used to always leave the corral gate open becuase Traveller's spirit, well...it likes to travel.

Yes, one on the principle of free speech, the other on the principle of secure borders.

One of those groups was upholding American principles, the other trying to destroy them.

No organization should be exempt from property tax. Even churches.

Either everyone pays or get rid of property tax altogether.

I assume you mean the confederacy was upholding the American principle of owning humans?

Are you using chronological snobbery here?!?!

If you don't know what that is, consult CS Lewis.

Hope this is a wake up call to the GOP

The GOP in DC is vastly different from the typical, everyday, tax paying folks that voted for Trump. The wake up call needs to be heard by we the people that vote the folks into government.

I can understand why many states considered - and followed through on -secession in the early 1860s. I would welcome a national divorce.

I did not know what that meant. Surprising because that is a common theme for me and I’ve read a good bit of C. S. Lewis.

To answer your question, no. When the American Republic was formed in 1776 it was already almost universally accepted by the world’s intellectuals (which our founders certainly were) that slavery was wrong. Thomas Jefferson wrote, and spoke, extensively against the institution.

In 1861, when the US Civil War started, slavery was almost completely abolished in Europe, with only Spain and Portugal still engaged in it. Even Russia had abolished serfdom that year.

So the confederacy was violating the moral order OF ITS DAY in Western Civilization.

Are there any heritage organizations for the descendants of colonists who sided with Britain during the War of Independence?

Well I hope ALL tax exempt organizations in their state will be affected since Virginia was a confederate state.
