That actually looks like a pretty good choke point. They had the doors barricaded, and anyone coming through would have to go through broken windows.

Not being familiar with the layout of the capital, for all we know, the doorway where the officer was positioned was the entrance to the elevator or stairwell leading to the area where the principals were located.

Is that not what you would want if you are protecting the presidential line of succession? A place to slow them down, and easily pick them off if they continue forward?
