The cop behind her had a gun and didn't shoot her isn't exactly a good excuse for her to think she can go through a barricaded door while she breaches the US Capitol building.

Hello, McFly, the cops behind her all had guns. They watched indifferently and walked away as these rioters destroyed government property in an attempt to get into the hallway beyond. Had they actually done their jobs and, you know, arrested those clowns, we wouldn't be talking about this today. She'd be out on bail right now instead of lying naked on a slab in the morgue.

They had already busted through several barricades before that point though. Their very presence in that stairwell was a crime. I guess crossing that final barricade escalated their crime from a petty violation to summary execution

If that is the line in the sand that they created, then yes. The cops should have done more to prevent them from getting to that point, but if that's the last perimeter where the secret service or whoever sets, then they can absolutely not let anyone cross it. Especially if there are several rioters waiting their turn.

Indeed. She was on public property, paid for and maintained by HER tax dollars.
This is so dumb.

Not sure how else to even say it. You're either just trolling or you're admitting you're pretty dumb with this line.

That's what is very odd about this. There were cops behind her and all kinds of people milling around. This guy just arbitrarily shoots her. I think they could have kept her from passing through the window without shooting her.

True, it's possible that if he's some sort of secret service dude, and the guys on the other side are cops, they may not have been on the same page or more to the point, they may have had entire different objectives I would guess.

One is being told to drop a knife or gun, and one is being told to stop breaching the fricking United States capitol.

So, she was justifiably shot because she was a danger to whom? Or to what? A public building?

Absolutely not. However, should you be killed on sight if you happen to illegally enter a government building? That's a better question.
I would absolutely expect to be killed if I was part of 100s or 1000s that stormed the US Capitol while Congressmen were in the building to certify a presidential election, and I got as far as that spot where a barricaded door was, and I tried to go pass it.

I would have expected to be shot at any point before that, and certainly at that point as well.

SO yes, very obviously I would have expected to be shot at any moment.

She's actively trying to breach a barricade in one of our top federal buildings. If there's one scenario in life where I fully expect to be shot, this is it.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills that people are surprised she was shot and saying she never should have expected to be shot in that moment.

And I feel like I'm taking crazy pills that no one seems to care that the cops who were in the stairwell did not seem to care about what was going on at all when it was perfectly within their power to stop the rioters before it came to violence.

If you told me that someone got shot storming the capital then I’d have to say “they deserved to get shot”

It’s a wonder more didn’t get shot.
If you told me 100s or 1000s stormed the US Capitol while we were certifying a Presidential Election, I would call it a minor...or major miracle that only 1 person was shot and killed.

The VP, every member of congress, and the rest of the staff.

Aka, several people in the presidential line of succession.

Had she not breached the US Capitol as a domestic terrorist, she'd probably still be alive as well, so there's that.

Everyone in that building was totally safe...obviously!

Why are the other rioters still alive and free? If they were terrorists and insurrectionists they should all be dead or at least in prison. As of right now, there have been 52 total arrests. Of those 52, 47 were arrested for breaking curfew last night.

Apparently you only become a terrorist after breaking into the US Capitol when you enter a certain hallway.

All of whom were under armed guard locked in the basement.

More of them are very lucky they are alive, and even more are very luck to not be in prison, but I can only imagine there will be more arrests in the coming days.

I was told police or security never shoot white people and always aim to make sure they are unharmed no matter how dangerous they may be.

Although it was extremely stupid of this girl to do that, she didn't seem like a threat to anyone's life. She would have been shooting to get through that door instead of banging on it if she was really dangerous.

Great question, they should all be in jail for a loooooong time.

They should because they were, by definition.

The people on here bitching about her being shot, are you the same people screaming for unarmed civilians shot by police to comply?

I’m sure they were warned to not enter the doors or face being shot. I mean a verbal warning need not be given as a cop literally has a gun drawn. That guy has no idea of these people’s intention. They overran the fricking capital for fricks sake. Quit excusing this behavior as patriotic. This looked like a few hundred thousand rabid righties having their day to aft like fricking animals. The GOP or the trump led GOP is dead and I’m actually happy about it, and I voted trump twice

So should the 100s/1000s of protestors be allowed to get right up to that basement door and those guards before action is taken?
