Ok? So exactly where do the folks that smoke work? Seriously curious and I owned two companies where we could have opted out of testing but our insurance would have been ridiculously high if we had done so...

Some will some won't. It will be interesting to see as what qualifies as "in your system" in a post accident screening

I know a lot of people that smoke pot, and they are across a wide selection of industries. tech, marketing, non profits, small businesses, lawyers, service industry, oil/gas, etc. About the only people who I know that don't smoke for their jobs are either drivers or work in medical.

I will say that I know mostly professionals, so they aren't really at risk of accidents.

They might as well get the revenue up there. Everyone is hooked on heroin in that state so they might as well get some tax revenue from a lesser drug to combat the epidemic of the greater drug.

I am in Denver for a conference and since I moved from here in 2013 pot has really taken a toll on Colorado. I have not been able to walk down the street without being hit up for cash by pand handlers. Saw some seriously high people thrown out of Sams No3
downtown cause they were causing a scene. Just seems like LA on the prairie.

I was already moving to Vermont in the next few months.
This is a surprising bit of good news on my soon to be new state.

I sure hope so and I'm not a smoker. I just think its asinine for weed to be illegal and a complete joke.

Weed didn't cause this. All the folks moving from California did. That was happening long before CO legalized weed.

I seriously doubt people are pan handling due to weed. It's not that type of drug like alcohol, cocaine, or heroin is.

Not all of them, of course, but some legal states are seeing sizable decreases in the number of companies that screen for cannabis.

quote:

So far, companies in states that have legalized either recreational or medicinal marijuana are leading the way on dropping drug tests. A survey last year by the Mountain States Employers Council of 609 Colorado employers found that the share of companies testing for marijuana use fell to 66 percent, down from 77 percent the year before.
quote:

Companies are having a hard enough time hiring, with unemployment hovering around 4 percent. “Employers are really strapped and saying, ‘We’re going to forgive certain things,’” says James Reidy, a lawyer who works with employers on their human resources policies. Reidy knows of a half-dozen other large employers that have quietly changed their policies in recent years. Not all companies want to advertise the change, fearing it might imply they are soft on drugs.
quote:

“We assume that a certain level of employees are going to be partaking on the weekends,” said Reidy, the employment lawyer. “We don’t care. We’re going to exclude a whole group of people, and we desperately need workers.”

Screen away. Until they have a test for ACTIVE THC they will not be able to determine if someone is under the influence. All the tests now can tell is that sometime in the last 30 days you've used pot. Hardly a basis for firing. You can't fire somebody for use of a LEGAL substance unless they are under the influence.
