Looking for some info - background on what’s going on there. I don’t trust the fake news so I’m turning to PT to get me up to speed.

They thought they could make socialism work this time. Apparently, they were wrong.

late stage Socialism.
Venezuelan parliment declared Guiado interim president (actually constitutional in VZ)
Maduro said lol no
MIC is jonesing for a new fix
This time the USA actually has a legit national interest
Trump says all options always on table, but has been anti-war for decades.
Rest of Latin America is pissed at Maduro, millions of migrants all over
Latins are wanting the USA to help take care of the problem

No one knows what happens next.

Socialism failed in a country that has the largest oil reserves in the world. And they stole money from people and businesses that were successful. Still failed but let's give it a shot in the U.S.

Tin Pot Dictator propped up by Russia/China/Iran corrupted military. Stole an election, after Maduro threw out Election Observers. Clinging onto power at all costs, citizens starving, 500000 cases of Malaria, no medicine. It's only a matter of time before US and South American allies intervene.

Hugo Chavez won the presidency, promising to bring socialism to Venezuela. He was a Lt. Col in the army, but he wasn't part of the elite. He was low born, and a outsider.

His reforms destroyed the economy. He turned the well run and profitable state oil company into a jobs programs, to benefit his constituents. And in the process he blew it up.

Oil made the economy work, and as PDVSA declined, the country slid with it.

This is the age old problem in South America, when the European elites run the country, the economy is better off. But they run these countries for their own benefit, and they do little to help the poor native peoples, who often feel left out and marginalized. That in turn creates room for populists like Chavez, and Maduro to take power.

We're now looking at the unfortunate, and predictable result of Chavez's reforms. Economic bankruptcy, and social strife. There are many who still support Maduro, because he's one of them, and because of his efforts to help them (the destruction of the economy aside).

The old elites are pushing to get rid of Maduro, but how popular are they? I don't know. It's South America, so Maduro may have the numbers. Poor people outnumber the rich, and the middle class.

1999 Chavez was elected...a socialist...promising the AOC line of drivel...and was very Charismatic

He began taking businesses over and eventually demanded all the foreign oil company profits coming out of VZ...

So about 8-10 yrs ago the oil companies left and the state took it over, with no profit to ensure efficiency, it hasn't generated the revenue it even once did...
Chavez made the statement, the government can more effectively run all businesses, so in full mafia mode, they went and took the lost money from small businesses and they eventually shut down...

So, just like the great leap forward in China, you just stop feeding certain areas, so people not down with the revolution were not given as much and they fled.

2M VZs left for Spain, Florida and other Spanish speaking friendly places, taking their money with them.

So without wealth creators, VZ has been collapsing over the last 3-4 years since Chavez kicked the bucket.
Enter Maduro, Chavez's VP, who is like Chavez without the gravitas. A more restless crowd has been activated by the CIA.
Through their USAID front, on the VZ/Columbian border.
So Maduro locked down the "road" border crossings to prevent USAID trucks from coming in. So agitators at all (even Brazil) the borders are messing with VZ border security.
While inside the country, protesters are being called to March in the streets because many are not getting the 3 meals a day, etc. It appears only Caracas is being given the food shelter and medical as promised.

So here we are...

You seem pretty knowledgeable.

Why has Uruguay been able to thrive while the rest of the continent has stagnated or declined?

AOC wants to build high speed rail powered by unicorn tears from her "home" in the Bronx to Venezuela.

This seems to be the consensus from the woke crowd.

Why are our CIA, SFs, Black ops, contractors, etc involved?

Deep state trying to find a new playground now that Trump is shutting down Syria and Afghanistan?

Oil? (This seems unlikely given the current state of US production and recent reserve discoveries)

Global politics, wrt to China and Russia?

Preventing South America from a full on collapse like North Africa/Middle East and Central America that eventually leads to mass migrations?

Something else?

Socialism always ends in starvation and genocide. Seeing as the common folks are eating their pets, but there isn't known genocide yet, I'd say they are about 60% through the experiment, but we can all just assume they aren't doing it right. Good news is there are planned helicopter tours to celebrate giving the power and wealth back to the people in the near future.

Yep. Capitalism failed the masses.

I see thus one as a legit emergency. Trump is a dumbass for fixating on Rush's critique about how much wall we can get done. He should have gone to the u.n. and arranged a multi national force to take over.
The Venezuelans are coming.
