Not necessarily.
The key to growth is to have all or most of the females reproducing. The difference in the polygamous model vs. monagamous is the male participation in reproduction.
In the polygamous model the number of reproducing males is reduced.

Exactly. Male to female birth ratio is roughly one to one, but if the higher value males are each hareming more than one girl to procreate with, there’s a lot of males left with an empty dance card. Males with no economic/social and dating prospects are dangerous, and polygamy ensures a burgeoning population of these guys. If 10% of the guys are procreating with 30% of the females, math dictates that at least 20% of males will be left without any partners available. Procreation is somewhat a zero sum game.

You're starting to get to the reason why I have two wives. Except your premise is wrong...
It should read that 20% of males are acting like women, wanting to be women, or just girly. Masculinity is a rare quality in America today... sane women have run out of true masculine men to pick from.

Exactly right.
Western societies long ago recognized that large numbers of unhappy men with no positive outlook for their future will lead to mischief.
The Eastern societies kept polygamy around but they also created eunuchs.

The reason for outlawing Polygamy is so that you don't have an inbreed population. Women will marry rich men with multiple wives before marrying a dead beat. This was a problem in Europe as kings/lords/etc had more living offspring than regular peasants. I don't think it would be an issue under a developed Capitalistic Country, but as we move toward Socialism and concentrations of wealth, women will want to do this again.

Women in cities largely do this now minus the breeding due to birth control. Women often choose to share a wealthy handsome man rather than have all of a man who isn’t their social equal/better.

It's not even close to irrelevant if the men experience sexual desire and have no path at obtaining that.
Men are biologically designed to reproduce. That's for every man. Having a bunch of men hanging around and serving no purpose would result in absolute mayhem.
Monogamy has proven itself in societies everywhere.
Polygamy has proven to be an unsustainable and destructive dead end.

Am I a Polygamist? I guess in the strictest sense of the word... no. The government probably doesn't recognize both of them.
