Maybe, possibly, on a "pound for pound" basis....otherwise, no. Not even close.

That’s been speculated.
But several Navy officials have commented they’d be surprised if that was the case, since there are personnel whose jobs are to be prepared for fire before any welding occurs.
So unless someone messed up ... ?
(but I can’t imagine what can be done if an explosion occurs)
It’s crazy that this has been burning since 9am with no end seemingly in sight?

SD FD basically said that no one is actively fighting the fire.

Gotcha.
Do you think they’re concerned about moving any of the adjacent vessels?

They want to move the two destroyers on the pier. There's tugs on scene to do it. Issue is it is a Sunday, they're going to need to recall the crew to get those things moved.

Probably domestic terrorism.
It's pretty sad that's the immediately conclusion some would come to. There are 100 possible causes that are more likely. Accidents do happen.

Is the boat considered racist in any way?
You never know until you know.

Morrison was indeed on The Bonnie Dick, but it was a different ship, CVA-31, an aircraft carrier.
That ship was decommissioned on July 2, 1971. Jim died the day after his father spoke at the decommissioning ceremony.

As TigerCruise said, all firefighters (SD and federal) have retreated.
Fire is not contained, w ship's fuel now burning.
Update on injuries from Navy:

Pascagoula about to get some more work.

shouldn't be much of any fuel on board.
Most if not all should have been unrepped off prior to the maintenance period
Also the color is wrong, bravo fire would be causing much darker smoke

At least there were no ships onboard.

"Burn down to the waterline"
It's a steel ship....
Saying that, it doesn't say much for the fire control capabilities of the thing if it's continuing to burn unless they were disabled for some reason.
One missile hit and scrap it?

I have so many questions.
But I don’t dare ask them on this website.
I’m feeling a tad sensitive today.

Could be Iranian retaliation for blowing up their nuclear facilities the last few weeks.

Well the issue is during maintenance periods there's issues with manning, fire fighting equipment, and water tight integrity.
A lot of hatches can't close because of ventilation and other hoses. A lot of fire fighting equipment is secured and or inoperable.
The major issue has and always will be the quality of contractors we hire to work on ships. In SD a lot of them are ex criminals and Mexican nationals.
