Shut them down or privatize.
Why Bezos hasn't branched Amazon into private parcel delivery boggles the mind. He's already got a fleet capable.
More like Bozos.

Streamlined, the USPS could be a very reliable operation.
As it stands, however, it should be privatized.

They lose money hand over fist, well over 50% of the bulk of the delivery is junk mail which places undue pressure on every operation of the USPS. Eliminate the junk mail and the entire system operates more efficiently and to cost saving, including cutting staff and logistics is cut by 50%. IF the USPS can't operate in the black after that, then privatize the whole damn thing.
But the junk mail advertisers are keeping the US Postal Service afloat financially, so I’m grateful for that.

sounds like my post office here in WNC. Closes 1-1/2 for lunch, open very few hours on Saturday, and never at the counter when you go in. I also think they skip delivering the mail some days of the week

What about the senior citizens who live in rural areas and get their prescriptions in the mail? What are they supposed to do if you shut it down?

USPS sends me an e-mail everyday that shows my mail to be delivered. The problem is my delivery person comes whenever they feel like it. Could be several days before my mail runs. I live a mile away from the post office. It’s been that way for at least 2 years.

Until the USPS can reduce prices and stop raising postage prices twice a year, I'll remain skeptical.
someone hasn't shipped with ups or fedex in the last 4 years.
Usps is atleast 2x cheaper than any other shipper for many typically sized boxes.
And letter postage is cheap as shite. Less than a dollar to delver a postcard across the country? THAT is insane.

Also need to cut these tiny post offices you see everywhere. If your town can't support a gas station or even a DG, you don't need a Post Office
If not closing them they should have no staff. The one near my farm in very rural Sumter county is unmanned. It is just a building full of PO boxes and a machine that sells stamps.
These would save money in the long run. Instead of a truck driving down all these dirt roads around there all the residents could have their mail in one place.

I wonder if this will effect the guy that sets down the street from my house for hours when its route audit time?

Yeah, there are some out of touch takes in here. USPS is by far the cheapest option for anything small and light, and is heavily used for domestic and global commerce. It is not just a spam delivery service.

I have several complicated thoughts on this....
I won't hold my breath
Not sure lowering prices is the answer, their competitors certainly haven't lowered theirs in the last 5 years
I live in a fairly rural area and most people here use USPS bc the nearest place to ship with FedEx or UPS is a 30+ minute drive. Using them to ship stuff to us is fine however
And to all of those who say nobody receives anything that matters in the mail anymore that is not my experience at all. Idk the difference maybe it's bc of rural living or bc I own several businesses but I get quite a bit of bills/notices/etc in the mail
Don't get me wrong USPS is abhorrent but I'm not sure what the solution is. My rural area needs our post office but we also CAN support dollar general/gas stations/restaurants (the restaurants struggle) so we aren't just some empty area.
I'm all for dramatically increasing prices on junk mailers, idk what it would hurt

USPS is "crucial" nowhere, and everyone I know in my extremely rural hometown uses Fedex and UPS for anythibg important because USPS sucks and is unreliable.

quote:Then cut out the spam deliveries completely, shutter many tiny/rural offices. This will cut costs for staff >> processers & drivers. Mark up the price of domestic service and the whole thing will bring more efficient and reliable services due to less junk running through the system clogging up operations. Then the USPS may get back in the black.
