Doesn’t sound like much of a buildup for war. Sounds like prudent measures to be able to provide more assets to watch their actions a little better (intelligence and surveillance and reconnaissance) and to provide shift relief and a fresh set of eyes in defensive security measures (force protection) for our bases already in the region.

Gnome, IF we are forced to take action to keep the Straight of Hormuz open, and ensure safe international commerce and shipping to and from the Gulf, it will NOT be any “Boots on the ground” mired down in the sand scenario. We would destroy their naval and air assets, along with any offensive capabilities to threaten shipping in the Persian Gulf. This would easily be accomplished with Naval and Air assets. And there would be NOTHING Iran could do about it. We would not get entrenched or bogged down.
eta: Also, all of the False Flag conspiracy theorists: Has President Trump taken the bait? No. He hasn’t. IF he has to keep the Gulf open, he will, and for good reason.

Can’t say I haven’t thought of it but it scares the shite out of me. Iran has been planned for 20 years or more. Can’t imagine it will end well.
