It's getting pretty bad now

We went from Mexico will pay for it, to taxing the citizens for it

But it will be big and beautiful, you just wait and see!

Throw all common sense out the window with this silly wall

Just enforce laws on the books, penalize employers, and withhold federal funds from States who allow sanctuary and there's no need for a wall.

as usual, attacking a caricature. that's all they have

You say that and yet...

That is still less than 0.2% of tax revenues. Tariffs are not big tax revenue generators. The main purpose is to protect industries that are important to our national economy and security. We have to maintain a robust steel and aluminum industry to maintain the largest and best military in the world. Cheap Chinese steel is at threat to our military. It is a very small price to pay to make sure our dollar remains the reserve currency of the world.

Unless the importance of steel and aluminum is only temporarily vital to our national security, I would say this is an argument for permanent tariffs.

2 false statements.

1- US Manufacturers will and do benefit from it. They increase output and people buy it frombthe US Steel mills.

2- Federal gov makes more from increased sales tax on the new production from steel mills

the cost of any consumer price increase over tariffs per the individual person is nothing like tax hits through income and all other taxed areas combined.

The tax doesn't go to manufacturers. The point was the money goes to the gubment

That would only work if government was in the business of solving problems.

The trouble is, government doesn't profit from solving problems. Government profits from creating them.

maybe you should consider that you are the only person making caricatures here, as Roger didn't say anything about people considering tariffs an end unto themselves, at all

and neither did anyone else except you

what he did do was respond to the op in context and correctly

you, OTOH, are out to lunch
