US diplomats wife kills UK teen claims diplomatic immunity

Anne Sacoolas has been named as the woman responsible for a car crash that killed a teenage boy in the UK.
She was driving on the wrong side of the road, hit a motorcyclist and the boy has died.
She has now fled back to the USA and is claiming diplomatic immunity.
How can anybody support this? Surely a massive overstep of what this decade old agreement is intended to do?
