I have no sympathy for the lenders or the auto manufacturers at all. They created this mess by inserting all the ridiculous technology in cars that are part of driving up prices.

The manufacturers shouldn't give the customer what he wants?

Fascinating.

The auto workers have negotiated some really sweet contracts in recent year. We are approaching a breaking point for the auto industry.

We will continue to bail out the automakers.

Its so tiring, and just leads to the next crisis.

I have been telling people car prices were going up without tariffs every single year it didn't fricking matter if there's a tariff on them or not greed by manufacturers and dealerships drove prices up tremendously.

Auto manufacturers are not impacted by inflation? They should just keep their prices the same as they were in 2020 and lose money on every sale?

Lose money on every sale but make it up in the volume, right?

*That's a dealership joke.

We have about 30 million more people in the US than we did in 2009 so I think this is alarming but probably not done increasing

The same number over more people is a lesser rate.

I was actually thinking about this last week. My vehicle is 2015 and it's paid off. About 60k miles. Straight V6 with more than 300hp. Screen with Android Audio. Never going to have subscription options. Should hopefully last another 5-10 years.

Has everything I need and that got me to thinking if it has everything I wanted.

What tech in new cars is so great that I should want it? I get that consumers want new tech but I don't understand which new tech and why.

The active driving aids are nice. My wife’s car has a HUD that I thought was a total gimmick that’s actually pretty slick.

I don’t know how much that stuff is worth. It’s been a package deal on my last two purchases; if you want some of the bells & whistles you get all of them. I wanted leather so I have a sunroof that never gets used and is just an unnecessary failure point for me.

My car has leather (a first for me) and I specifically stayed in the base model to avoid the sunroof.

The auto-assist driving stuff (I'm assuming you mean lane change and not the auto pilot) would annoy me. My wife's MDX has some of that. Adaptive cruise gets real annoying.

There's plenty of luddites here that bemoan the lack of availability of plain trucks claiming they "don't need all that shite".

Meanwhile, the only 2024 trucks available at the local Chevy dealer are basic work trucks, just like they claim to want. The manufacturers are missing out by not making more of them...

They’re sacrificing practical things like horse power, engine size, capacity and even a spare tire for the tech items.

Tell us how?

My Blazer RS has over 300HP out of it's V6. I like to go fast, but it doesn't really need more.

Spare tire? When is the last time you used one? They are gone to save you money and weight.

We just recently replaced my wife’s 16 year old Dodge Journey. We were looking for a similar vehicle (size, horsepower, etc). Most of the comparable vehicles had far less horsepower than the old dodge journey and smaller rear capacity and no spare tire. We had to go up to the 2nd highest Ford Escape package just to get what we had with the old Journey.

We drive plenty of miles between Vegas and Phoenix. Middle of nowhere miles. No spare tire would ruin your day in a hurry.

The Journey was considered a mid size while the Escape is a small CUV.

Naturally it's going to be smaller with less power.

Guess that's the manufacturers fault that you downsized only to be upset you have less space...

Far less power. 150-170. We found the 200+ hp and the spare tire that we needed but were surprised how weak the other options were.

Maybe some segments of the auto market… Aftermarket auto parts will be fine. Great Recession proof industry. Keep em longer= more repairs

As stated above, you were not comparing vehicles in the same size class.

This is why car salesmen hate customers.

You'll be ok. I have a 1998 and 2004. F an $80k truck is right
