Another poster says that according to some here Trump somehow magically decreased the debt in his first month. He said the OP targeted those previous silly Trump posts. If that was the attempt, fine.

The thread is titled bluntly, and the first word is pretty self-explanatory: update. That update references multiple threads made, mostly last summer.

As buckeye points out, the point was made several times in those days that the debt reduction was illusory, due almost entirely to EM in support of debt ceiling avoidance.

This is a goose, gander thread.

Problem is your basis for the critique erred in the same way as those whom he claims you were targeting. I presume that's why you refuse to answer the Sep8th question.

Another problem is that you were nowhere to be found in those other threads when the figure was flattering to this administration.

The 9/8 date isn't the only relevant one over the last 12 months- there was more than one EM followed by an issued-debt spike, so when I answered this same question on the first page, I did it in even more general terms, and as concisely as possible:
quote:

What's going on in that graph?

steady deficits, with the Treasury doing their Extraordinary Measures to avoid the debt ceiling

And that is exactly the case. Deficits have been steady monthly (acknowledging seasonality), and the flatlines/spikes are debt-ceiling avoidance episodes.

So your answer is "no".

See, that wasn't so hard.

Well there were several of those, and this has been the lone thread following up on the matter. Yet here you are, taking swipes, calling me doughheaded, and demanding that I repeat myself.

Read the post eliciting that comment.

This board bears witness to some awful economic premises. So do mainstream publications. Most (though certainly not all) of that is forwarded in an attempt to prop up obamanomics and/or class warfare.

It seems your OP was intended sarcastically. I accept that. The problem is it floats in a sea polluted with imbecility on the topic. So the sarcasm was more difficult to read than perhaps you suppose.

E.g., As I post this, neocon George Will is actually proclaiming to a CNBC anchor that Wilbur Ross "knows nothing of commerce." I'd like to assume Will was being sarcastic, but he wasn't. The arrogance, the pervasive stupidity of a journalist issuing such a statement about Ross is breathtaking.

Why? You didn't bother reading my posts, and couldn't wait to come in blasting my supposed cluelessness, making a fool of yourself. And why would I give a half shite about what someone of such a mindset would think of a pundit like Will or a cynical player like Ross?

Because it was a doughheaded post. Other than that, no reason at all.

As has been amply demonstrated, it was your question that was "doughheaded", as was your preceding accusation of cluelessness.

Sadly, the unnecessary demonstration of that doughheadedness could have been avoided, if only you had exercised the self-control to read 2 pages for questions that were already answered.

Of course, you had more than doughy-ness working against you. You were also melty, and melty + doughy is hard for any poster's head to overcome. So I feel for you, a bit.

At no point did I ever indicate that I was ok with the growing of the debt. I was pointing out their hypocrisy. How could you have come to the conclusion that I accept the growing of the debt if nothing I have said is indicative of such?

if you actually cared about the debt, not only should you be outraged about the current debt increases, you should be happy that the hypocrites have finally found a reason to support the issue you care about. So you appear to be more of hypocrite given your selective outrage, unsupported assumptions, and failure to embrace more support for the cause.

absolutely owned

oh btw, another update:

Nothing was selective about what I said, just responding to hypocrisy. And you said I have made unsupported assumptions, please enlighten me as to which ones. If you are referring to the democrats demonizing the republicans attempt at using the power of the purse in order to reign in the democrats spending which led to our debt more than doubling, then view the following
Republicans trying to kill people by using power of the purse.

For the record, I’m not ok with Trump raising the debt. Government spending should be reigned in. I will not sit here and allow hypocrisy to go without consequences though.
