It’s ridiculous that minimum wage workers are getting a huge pay raise with this, but there are a lot of those people out there who haven’t yet received a penny.
It's having it's planned effect on the economy. The Republicans tried to take it out but there Dems wanted it to remain.
That little bonus is going to frick with the economy till it runs out because no one is going to want to go back to work who is making more sitting home.
The effect was known and the Dems want it. Not to help workers but to frick with the economy.

Remember that the one congressman who tried to at least make the vote go on the record was crucified by so called conservatives.

I dont understand why they didnt just set it at a percentage of normal wage up to a cut off amount.

They do. Most of this umemployment is 600/wk covid.
After I posted that breakdown I looked up the information for my state.
IL is 47% of highest 2 quarters maxing out at 20k/361.54/wk=$1,444/mo
so this is based off of 40k income. Illinois Avg Household Income is $88,857 and $34,463 Per Capita Income.
$20,000x.47
----------- = $361.54/ wk $1,444/mo
26
Then each week for Covid you get $600/wk $2,400/mo
This brings total max pay $961.54/ wk $3,846.16 during Covid
So for my original example I used Married w/ 2 kids, both unemployed.
Person 1 unemployment $3.846
person 2 unemployment $3,846
person 1 stiumulus $1200
person 2 stimulua $1200
child 1 stimulus $500
child 2 stimulus $500
= $11,092.32 for Just this month. Obv stimulus is 1 time, but this 600 covid kicker is from March-July.
Normal unemployment for this situation would be 2,888 for two people max unemployment.

Yea so when I do get laid off I wont get shite because they have been overpaying others. Meanwhile I pay waay more in taxes than most.

Yep. Essential workers should be Pissed. A lot of them have not even received their stimulus yet. Unemployment is also burning up that money with the kicker.
That doesn't even touch the surface of whatever else we agreed to in that bill like library renovation and other pet projects.

You guys realize that money won’t last forever and those people might not have jobs still, right? Personally, I’d rather have a guaranteed source of income than this shite.

Well I work in oil and gas and it's pretty much inevitable at this point.

$500 billion of the 2 trillion dollar bill didn’t go to the American people or small businesses, but corporate and bank bailouts. That’s the worst part.

I'm actually jealous I didn't get fired
Feel bad for my friend in this boat. He told me yesterday he wished he would get fired because they reduced his hours and he’d make more on unemployment right now than he would if he even were full time
The small restaurant he works at will probably be going out of business soon after this is all said and done anyway

I can't lie, I'm not minding the unemployment right now.
I work for Disney as a Tour Guide so assuming I work a regular 40 hour week plus tips I'm usually right around $825. $16/hr base rate and average usually $150-$200 a week in tips. Some weeks a little more, some a little less.
Ironically with the $600 federal unemployment and $250 (I believe) Florida state unemployment I'll literally make about the same as I would working. The hardest part of course being I haven't gotten any unemployment money yet but I know I'll be getting it at some point. I don't want this unemployment to last forever but I definitely wouldn't mind if this goes into July.
I feel really bad for the people having to work right now. More exposure to the virus and getting fricked financially if they would've made more on unemployment. They should definitely be getting some sort of hazard pay.
Heck once I learned the amount I would get in unemployment I actually declined a position with Amazon making $17.50/hr. Has anyone else here declined employment due to the fact they would make as much if not more on unemployment?

I turned down a job just before the the 1st of the year. I dont like changing jobs and I love the team I work with now. Probably would be safer as it was in a new industry.

Same here, I'm okay with changing positions but I hate changing companies. It's always hard to know if you're going to fit in with the culture of another company. I wasn't going to leave my current job, but I knew we weren't going to be paid forever. I applied for the Amazon job before I knew what we would get in unemployment. Considering I'm making more sitting at home and the reports of Amazon employees getting Coronavirus in some of the warehouses I'm glad I didn't start working for them.

Local news did a story about this situation. Restaurants who are trying to open up doing curb side pick-up and delivery are having trouble. When they call staff back to come work, they are choosing to stay home and collect the unemployment checks.
