Does this always mean “black community”?

If so, why?

I have worked with a couple of engineering firms on large infrastructure projects. The black areas are always the first to get sidewalks, etc...

My high school - 98% white - was the last in our county to receive funding for a new computer lab. The 90% black school 10 miles away was the first to receive funding.

How do these myths percist?

In NOLA the "white" parts of town have the worst streets and public service in general but have the nicest homes. Vise versa for other areas.

They lose victim status if it’s exposed to the general how much undeserving crap they get.

There is no "black community."

Such a contrived term that I wish would go the way of the dodo

There is a "black national anthem" though. Learned that from the New Orleans mayoral inauguration, maybe they hoped it would bring the community closer together.

"Lift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring..."

Originally called the "Negro National Anthem." Used to have it memorized. It's a beautiful sounding song, actually.

Because of the victim mentality within that community.

You could have a disease that mainly affects white males yet blacks and women will still be “hardest hit”.

It seems that blacks do this, T-bird. Blacks seem to think of themselves as part of the black collective. Minorities may tend to do that.

I always thought it as weird. I'm white. We don't seem to think of ourselves as part of the white race, like other races do for their race. I just think of myself as a person and not affiliated with a race group.

If something bad happens to a black person, other black people feel it happened to them or to the whole race.

I guess white people band together over political bullshite as a defense mechanism. But if some white dude gets shot by a cop or something, I don't think of him as my white brother. He's just some dude that got shot by the cops.

My perception may be way off.

T-bird, how is that word accepted these days in the black community.

It sounds like an old school, condescending, derogatory word now. It sounds as bad as the other N word to me.

That's an out-of-use term nowadays, but it was common for a long time. There was a joke about Oscar Gamble, a black baseball player who had a long career, that "Oscar is so old, that when he broke in, he was a Negro".

The dumb ones do.

I agree with that perspective. I view myself as a man. Period. Not just a black man. My existence is not defined by the melanin in my skin.

quote:

Precisely the attitude I'm fighting for among black people. I don't share some special kinship with a random black dude in bumfrick ohio (frick 94.7% of that state, by the way) just because he happens to also have dark skin. It's a stupid collectivist mindset that leads to the proliferation of asinine groupthink the likes of which excoriates Kanye West or any black person who dares not toe the far-leftist party line.

I hate such cultural marxism with a passion. Misnomers like "black community" keep it alive.
