If I recall no one bid on the recent leases and the state of Alaska was considering bidding with hopes they could flip the leases later and get royalties....?idk if that was the real scoop????
Alaska was offering very good deals to get you up there drilling ...the pipeline capacity was not being used and if it fell below a specific percent they would not be able to have enough critical amount to flow at all...
I am out of the loop recently so may be out dated now...
I just heard one supermajor is shutting down their drilling department except on domestic area....not sure if that is true either but was told by a person who keeps up with this stuff...

Entire waterways are opening up due to warming (pick your reason ...not going there)
And areas once not able to be explored and developed are opening up...majors use to all have artic teams in place for exploration and technology....but I know the one I worked for backed off due to economics and changes in exploration style ( conventional versus unconventional)....idk I agree if others jump the us it will not be good...lots of places under ice right now are similar geologic environments as GOM.
