UK creating “internet safety regulator” to monitor major websites

The series was a somewhat hysterical reaction to the Thatcher years. And it says more about Moore, and his unfounded perception of the world, than anything else.
The 80s did spark the rise of the surveillance state in the UK, and that may be the solid point that he makes. What he didn’t predict, and was perhaps incapable of understanding, was that it was the left who would prove to be truly tyrannical.
And that had always been true in England. It was the left who wanted to use the government power to snuff out traditional life, and make sure everyone was a good citizen.
