Tennessee students will have to get their flu shot this fall and also be immunized for COVID-19 if a vaccine becomes available under an emergency rule unanimously approved Friday by the university’s Board of Trustees.

The university went to online classes because of the coronavirus pandemic on March 16, which was extended April 1 through the summer. The university system plans to have students on campuses for the fall semester with this new rule.

University of Tennessee President Randy Boyd said this is an emergency rule for now but the state legislature will be asked to make it permanent.

And here we go... suddenly the Flu is something we should be concerned with?

I already assumed most businesses, schools, etc would require Covid vaccines literally as soon as possible when it does come out. With that said, I cant wait for that day. That’s when we can put all this behind us and move on without the government forcing shutdowns. AND SPORTS!

Edit: Im not implying forced vaccines. I am implying being ready for a vaccine so we can go back to complete normalcy.

The obvious, honest answer is heart disease; that takes more lives per year than any virus or bacteria out there. That we just shrug away 650,000 deaths per year is crazy.

But we can’t tell heavy people that they are being unhealthy and putting a huge burden on our healthcare system. That would be shaming.

Forcing shutdowns BAD.
Forcing vaccines GOOD?

How is it different then showing proof of certain immunizations when you apply to a certain school that requires said immunization?

Im not implying the government forcing vaccines.

Obese are at much higher risk of nearly EVERYTHING, cancer, diabetes, respiratory issues, musculoskeletal, you name it.

Well symptoms are similar and you don’t want to be blurring the diseases

Expect to see attendance short falls continue at U of TN with no end in sight. As a headline in the coming years...

Flu vaccine is fairly benign. An unknown with a yet to be developed covid vaccine could be a huge liability if required and you see some adverse reactions; like anaphylaxis. Not sure they thought this through.

November will be an insane month.. with the election and you can go on and assume cnn will have daily breaking flu coverage about who’s having outbreaks and they will try to shut it down again....

i worked in health care my whole career..

the only year i got sick was the one year i took the flu vaccine.

others can do what they want...
but for me, no thank you.

vit C, vit D/k2, and getting fresh air/sunshine has worked well enough.

No way in hell I'll ever take a COVID vaccine. There is no telling what the short and long term effects are going to be.

Never had the flu vaccine and I've never gotten the flu in my life.
