I think Republicans in Texas realize this is going to be a war of attrition with the democrats to get this done but they seem fully prepared to wage the war. Republicans need to use our power like the dems do and ruthlessly draw these congressional districts to favor our side.

You have no fricking idea why a quorum was originally intended and why the practices followed
False but nice try
quote:And, it shouldn't be. Quorum is for when you CANNOT have enough AND, to avoid just some subgroup getting together and holding a vote when the others aren't even aware it's happening. NO RATIONAL PERSON thinks it was intended to allow people to hide from votes.
Regardless He made an absolute type statement that Republicans did not specifically specify Texas
but Republicans should just vote anyway
they can't because the rule of quorum is in enforcement
Announce the legislators in question have quit their posts. Send messages to their districts telling them they'll need to appoint replacements. Hold the vote in the meantime. PERIOD
quote:Oh fricking spare me your "educated" bullshite. I know the history and it OBVIOUSLY was not invented for vote shirking.
That's the principle that we have been operating in this country for over 200 years in fact about to be 250 years next year it is also a practice in democracy Western democracies for hundreds of years, of which the American republic is built upon So I'm sorry that you aren't educated enough to understand this but it's still a law

Oregon Dems got tired of the Republicans doing this to stall communist legislation so they made it a disqualification for office if you failed to appear for a vote. Republicans should be talking about how the commie Dems handled this in Oregon.
Oh, and Owl. LOL @ you after Riverside's post.

Totally agree. Oregon could not abolish the quorum requirement so they basically made it a disqualification for office if you were absent too many days

it does allow legislative procedure to bar someone who has ten or more unexcused absences from running for office, that doesn't change the rule of quorum
IN OREGON,, the progressive dims did this to take power from rural Republicans IN OREGON
and would not affect this situation because Texas doesn't have a similar law

OK then explain to me how the intention of qurom matters, it doesn't
it's the practice and the practice is well established
and there's no legal way for the governor to force democrat legislators that may be out of the state back into the state
That's not me supporting what they're doing, that's me just stating the fact of law
in nowhere in no post in this entire thread on this board in the history of this board have I supported and thought I thought what the democrats were doing was right
i'm saying it's part of the process and it's allowed
so again, since i've had a whole bunch of y'all riled up at me, ready to lynch me go back and try to find where I said what the democrats was doing was right.. never did
I said they had the right there's a difference

and Trump's going to be here, eventually
and Vance likely after that
There is no expectation right now that this will be settled anytime in the next couple of months They're already prepared for special elections in May, especially for those of you outside of Texas. Settle down, we've got this
