Now instead of $5 bread you're paying $8 for local bread or $10 for foreign bread. Is that winning?

As others have pointed out, it quickly gets far more complex than this example. That's why the tariffs seem to be a difficult topic, there is so much nuance missed on message boards & social media discussions.

-You could substitute beans/rice for bread
-You could pocket the $5 and spend it on something else in YOUR town
-You could decide you're pissed at the price and learn to bake your own bread
-Town B could be too far away for the travel to make sense
-Town B's bread is cheap but it sucks
-Town B could be getting that price from slave labor/shitty environmental regulation (maybe town A is too expensive because they have too MUCH regulation also)

I could go on forever but there are loads of individual factors going into these decisions beyond
"price A > price B buy cheap product"

You’re a pro-illegal immigrant “tax the rich” liberal. You aren’t helping anyone grow. You’re universally disliked. And not half as smart as you think you are.

Yet, youre guessing at who absorbed the cost.

No guessing involved. I see all the paperwork. The price is the same pre- and post-tariff.

There is plenty of economic data showing that much of the tariff cost is not being passed on.

And they have cut shifts at their plant in Chattanooga, laid off salaried employees and also furloughed 200 people.

So yes, tariffs are “working”

I mean did we really think the end results we wanted were going to be instantaneous?

Nope. Neither do you. The poster you responded to does, though. You are in over your head. Like always.

I've bought at least 3k worth of weapon lights and optics over the past few months.

If you want to know what those items are, I can mansplain.

I literally deal with tariffs every day. It's a huge pain in the arse. But I see when they are passed on and when they are absorbed.

Not sure why you are being belligerent about this. This isn't some kind of sorcery. Anyone who deals with it knows what I am talking about. It's not even debatable.

So we have multinationals, during their quarterly earnings reports, with detailed audited financials, telling us tariffs are hurting them because they had to discount to importers in the US to offset them.

And we have Roger telling us it aint so cause he bought some gun parts from China.

Hmm decisions decisions, who to believe.

If your supplier is eating the 47% tariff, you will not have a supplier soon.

So based on your very narrow anecdotal experience?

I have specifically said it varies by product, market, country, company, etc.

Some tariffs are definitely passed on to the consumer. Some companies use tariffs as an excuse to raise prices even above the tariff price. This is not possible for all products, as many have no room for price increases due to competitive markets.

Where is the tariff revenue coming from?

Answer that, we will start there.

Which is exactly what youre doing

If your supplier is eating a 47% tariff, they'll be out of business with the quickness.

When even Bill Maher say's he was wrong about the perceived effect of Trump's tarriffs, you know they are definitely working.

Depends which of Trumps stated goals you choose.

He threw out a half dozen. They cant all "work."

If the Chinese are "eating the tariff" (which they are not all doing) then no mfg will return to this country.

Without raising prices, there is no financial benefit. Its just a "tax."
