MIAMI — When Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis went on a top political podcast last week, he panned the Covid lockdowns encouraged by former President Donald Trump early in the pandemic.

The remarks made for irresistible headlines — the two GOP heavyweights and possible 2024 contenders were feuding. Just days before, Trump had appeared to take a swipe at the popular governor, calling politicians who have refused to reveal their vaccination status “gutless.”

Both camps have denied any real friction and blamed “the media” for overhyping tensions, but Trump advisers say that they see a hidden hand at play: that of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is in a pitched battle with the former president over the future of the Republican Party in political races all over the country.

They pointed to the podcast itself, since DeSantis made the attention-grabbing remarks on “The Ruthless” program, which is co-hosted by McConnell’s longtime adviser, Josh Holmes. And shortly after the podcast was posted Friday, Twitter was flooded with the suggestion that DeSantis had knocked Trump by saying that one of his biggest regrets was not being “louder” about the harms of the lockdowns intended to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

To many in Trump’s camp, it all looked like a setup.

“I like Josh. Josh is great. But he's a wholly owned subsidiary of McConnell World. And there's no way you can tell me that this was all a coincidence,” said one top Trump adviser, echoing four others who spoke on condition of anonymity because they did not have authorization to speak publicly about private discussions in his political shop.

Fresh stories out today, quoting that insiders are saying Trump called DeSantis dull. DeSantis did take a veiled swipe at Trump for shutting down the country, (if this is accurate because it doesn't jive with DeSantis saying he and Trump are NOT infighting)

DeSantis says he regrets not speaking out 'much louder' against Trump's recommendation to stay home

But then DeSantis said that the media is creating their division they are not fighting.

Gov. Ron DeSantis dismisses rumors of tensions with Trump after booster shot criticism: 'I think this is what the media does'

Now that I know that the podcast was ran by Turtle's guy, it makes sense they twisted the DeSantis interview for a gotcha.

What do ya'll think? Is Trump & DeSantis feuding? Or is Turtle playing ball for DeSantis or just against Trump, or both?

I don't doubt that slimy piece of crap is causing it. They don't want a GOP president because they might have to actually work.

Turtle is rumored to have Thune set up to take his place as he is rumored to be retiring.

There are a lot of chess pieces on the board. As it just occurred to me that McCarthy used the MAGA movement & Trump to get rid of Cheney. Liz wanted Speaker badly. But will McCarthy be replaced with a HFC member so we can get things done?

McCarthy & Thune would stop Trump's immigration, Health Care, Trump's budget (his budget took away their gravy trains) and they would be full on globalism.

DeSantis wasn’t wrong in his comments about Trump totally mishandling the early stages of COVID. If you’re still denying that Trump completely dropped the ball on that, you’re as bad as the propagandists on the left.

That said, of course the GOP is going to use those comments to create division within the party. That’s what they want. A weak GOP keeps people like McConnell in power.

In before the Dan Satterberg Republicans like Sentrius, Penrod, Evolved Simian, etc. come to white knight for McConnell.

DeSantis really did his homework on covid and the information was there early on too. Around 22% of Florida's population is over 65 and he well knew that they were the one's at risk. Unlike Cuomo, he did everything the state could do to protect those at high risk while not doing the useless lockdowns on those who were not at risk.

Both Trump and DeSantis get things done.

This is where Trump made huge mistakes. He let the media and democrats set the standard for what COVID response should be.

I have no problem calling out Trump but Pence is who brought Fauci in. At that moment in time of covid, if Trump didn't shut down what expert scientists were saying. He would have been seen as an evil person killing Americans by the millions.

With that being said, anyone as President in 24 won't MAGA unless at least the Turtle's are relegated to the very back of the room. Since Boehner at least... the establishment rules.

How do you remove career long establishment? You start where Trump is by getting them voted out. If someone like Jim Jordan or Rand Paul were the grand Pooh Bahs Washington would work for the people.

The establishment have had their feet planted sternly fooling all of us for 50 years.

I guess Brandon or Hitlery would have handled it better?

Or Doc Fenton, he is a self-admitted neocon. He would be defending Liz Cheney like Erik Ericson, Jonah Goldberg. They are hardcore establishment. Paul Ryan fooled so many.

And they are orchestrating this Trump - Desantis "feud".

The absolute worst thing is for both sides to start fighting. The globalists will win in that scenario.

Desantis should show respect and wait until Trump makes his decision. Maybe he is and this is all being blown out of proportion by the media to divide us.

But honestly, unless we can fix the voter fraud it wont matter in any case.

They would have done exactly what Trump did. Brandon has in many ways because it was the media and the DNC that shaped the response to COVID and Trump went right along with it. That’s the point. Trump dropped the ball bigly.

Spot on. There isn't going to be any Trump vs. DeSantis.

Ball is in Trump's court if he wants to run or not.

I'm not a huge fan of Trump's Covid shutdown in hindsight but to be fair he was getting mixed info from multiple nefarious sources (both internal and external) his whole presidency. Covid was no different.

Do you think Trump thought he could schmooze people like Pence & Turtle? Or he tried to work with the hand he was dealt? Pence kept Trump in check. (Remember MAGA supporters loved Pence all along) Pence played it very well.

I never trusted Pence and I always thought his Evangelical act was fake all along.

So, yes Trump's mistake was allowing them to choose his VP and globalist cabinet.

He was green, they set him up and leaked his calls with foreign leaders immediately.

I think Trump was more than happy to delegate COVID response in hopes he could play both sides of the fence when he should have taken the lead and told them all to frick off.

This is what makes his response to COVID so strange. He knew exactly who these snakes were and yet he folded to their demands.

Take Trump’s nuts out of your fricking mouth and quit pretending like shutting down the country to hand out checks was the correct response.

Trump fricked up bigly. But we have to pick up the pieces and move on...

After the long list of things they tried since the GOPe joined forces with the democrats...

--A PLANTED woman at a Trump rally with nasal oxygen in a wheel chair was beat and Trump supporters there screamed racist

--SpyGate honest Bob, impeachments. I still say the last impeachment was to stop him from pardoning the two that could take them all down-Snowden & Assange.

--Covid was a movie script, a plan they trusted and worked on for 4 years. there was no way Trump could have stopped them w/o looking like he advocated millions to die.

They have the media they have the world...

Then they got him with J6 in spades with long lasting effects.

So yeah, we all know he fricked up.

We know Trump will tell the globalists to pound sand. We don't know that about anybody else running or thinking about running.

Brandon may bring us all to our knees in lines for food here soon; and re-elect another pawn marxist like Cackle laugh by declaration of mail in ballots for the one uniparty rule. The woman that was the bagman with Obama for the Jussie hoax.

So forgive us for having some hope, when the cup is empty.

ETA Canada just told their people that empty food shelves in grocers is coming soon.

And don't reply that you are fine you will eat the next tiger on your mountain. For how long?

Only the very wealthy with condo bomb shelters will be justfine and not bowing to Uncle Brandon.
