You're probably stupid in other ways, too.

Right to try is shitty legislation. Know who loves right to try? Big pharma.

You can charge people anything you want for medicine that may not even work. Big pharma’s wet dream.

My friend lobbied against Missouri’s right to try. Every pharma company had a lobbyist there in support of the bill.

Lol. It can benefit people and big pharma. It won’t. But it’s logically possible that it could. Just don’t pretend this is Trump sticking it to the system.

But when you remove third parties, real informed consent and clinical efficacy, it’s a three-ring circus.

This isn’t a “drain the swamp” move or “sticking it to the man.”

I don’t. If Gramma wants to drain her life savings for an unproven medicine, have at it. Let’s just not pretend this is a huge patient’s rights win.

If the drug offers no clinical benefit?

Sometimes death happens. The chances of even extending life after a terminal diagnosis with an experimental medicine is almost minuscule. False hope isn’t hope.

What if big pharma is willing to give trials of experimental drugs for free because they badly need the data?

It was my mistake for entering a nuanced argument into the poliboard circle jerk. I apologize.

I’m not opposed to more choices. But this isn’t going to save maybe even one person’s life. These laws have existed for years at the state level. Proponents cannot point to any marked improvement in access to care or lives saved.

I bet you think reimportation of drugs is a huge money saver, too.

Right to murder a baby? Lol, ok
Right to assisted suicide? Lol, ok
Right to try not to die? NOT OK
Right to assisted suicide? Lol, ok
Right to try not to die? NOT OK

What's to stop any random person from selling sugar pills for 5 grand a pop as a possible cure to cancer?
Testing, studies, peer reviewed research, trials, etc....
The whole point is that this is untested unproven therapies.

As a never Trumper, I can definitely get behind this. Am I turning over to the dark side

No. It just means that you’re a functional idiot when it comes to healthcare arguments.

"we need to legalize pot for cancer patients, who really cares what the feds think"
also liberals
"no we must not allow patients to take any drugs that the feds have not approved of"
well it would be funny, if their complete lack of principles wasn't so damn scary.
Actully it's:
Liberals
"we need to legalize pot so we can further study its potential benefits as earlier studies have shown it's had benefits in some areas of medicine it may have obenefits in others.
Rebublicans
"we are all for state's rights as long as it's something we agree with and are against it when we can stick it to the libs"
But why would I expect HeyHeyHogsAllTheWay to actually make an honest argument

The pharmaceutical companies would probably give them the experimental treatments for free to fast track approval if it works.
I'd be totally game if this happens, but then why not use the available avenue of compassionate use through the FDA?

Dammit. We aren’t actually talking about real things. Quit bringing real things up. Right to try rules.

No dude. It's therapies that haven't passed federal government choke point approval at the FDA.
There will be plenty of tests and research. You think Doctors will just let anyone walk into a hospital with crazy pills with no research and no studies and just let a bunch of patients take them? Don't fall for bullshite scare tactics.
Posted on 5/25/18 at 1:21 pm to Jbird
if a dying person is willing to try experimental treatments or drugs then no one should be stopping them much less making it illegal to help them do it.
they are dying so frickin what if it might kill them? if they dont care and want to take that risk FRICKIN GET OUT OF THE WAY AND LET THEM DO IT!
SAME GOES WITH ASSISTED SUICIDE IMHO

Can you expound on the role spelled out for physicians in right to try?

Why do you think that? If someone is actually terminal, way shouldn't they be able to take a drug that hasn't been approved?
In some cases it takes a drug as long as 10 years to be approved.

Let's see...
1) Not be taken advantage of and absolutely die
Or
2) Maybe be taken advantage of and possibly live.
Gotta admit...it's a tough call
